Top Movie Picks for Halloween

In October you'll notice several television networks sponsoring Scary Movie marathons. This is quite appropriate in the month of Halloween. Pop some popcorn and settle back for some Spooky flicks. Read on for some recommendations for Spooky flicks to experience...not alone, of course!

1. Halloween. First in the series is the 1978 release starring Jamie Lee Curtis. This story gives birth to the character of Michael Myers and relies on build up and tension to keep us hooked, rather than a lame slasher approach. No need to waste time on the sequels, unless you have a completion compulsion. They simply don't compare. This Movie is often mentioned favorably by critics, because Jamie Lee's character is atypical by not just running around uselessly screaming throughout the whole Movie; she gets to have a brain, and a clever one at that. Halloween is my top pick for good ole creepy viewing pleasure.

2. Poltergeist. This Movie released in 1982 and stars Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. Craig's character is a real estate developer, and he and his family live in one of the subdivision phases. Odd things start to happen, chairs moving, Eerie spirits floating down the stairway, a ravenous closet that likes to suck up all contents in the adjoining bedroom, a frightening clown doll....oh, etc. etc. Carol Anne, the couple's youngest daughter, disappear s into another dimension but communicates through a fuzzy tv channel. The special effects in this Movie are amazing, even now with greater effect capabilities available. Paranormal experts try to save the day. Poltergeist is one of my top picks for enjoying this month.

3. The Omen, 1976. This film is a masterful suspense thriller. Gregory Peck and Lee Remick play the parents of Damien, who has big shoes to fill as the Anti-Christ. My, what a sweet looking child to be responsible for such evil. The theme music is enough to creep out even the bravest viewer, and it delivers more: an excellent story line that I certainly hope never really happens.

4. Rosemarys Baby. It was released in 1968 and now looks a little dated, especially by fashion, but dont let that deter you. Rosemarys Baby stars Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, and Ruth Gordon. Its directed by Roman Polanski, which should be enough to frighteningly sober anyone who remembers the Charles Manson link. This Movie is one of my favorites. Theres some Anti-Christ makings here too. Hear the haunting lullabye once and youll never forget it.
