Movie Review Vera Cruz (1954)

VERA CRUZ -- Two 19th century soldiers of fortune, one survivor of the Civil War with a soft spot for sick horses and social justice (Gary Cooper playing Ben Trane), the other a charming and money-greedy happy-trigger killer (Burt Lancaster at his grinning best, playing Joe Erin), search for their next dollar down in Mexico at a time when the country is torn between Emperor Maxmillian and the nationalist peasant army trying to overthrow him.

Since the Emperor got the most cash, our hired guns agree to serve the Emperor by escorting a certain Countess to the city of Vera Cruz by passing through territory under rebel control. On the way to Vera Cruz, both fighters discover 3 million dollars in gold coins (intended to buy guns for the Emperor from France) hidden at the bottom of the stagecoach carrying the Countess and she is not totally unaware of the fact either. She has her own plans too. All three plot against the other two to scoop the treasure away. Betrayal is no t an issue. It's not even personal. It's just business.

After a few gunfight and ambush scenes between the Maxmillian's escorting army and the peasant rebels, justice reigns and Ben Trane emerges as the noble soul who triumphs over crass materialism despite the soft spot in his heart that Joe Erin took for weakness. He does not live long enough to correct his foolish ways.

This is the movie to see to learn how a bullet can be pulled out of the leading man's (Lancaster) arm by the other leading guy (Cooper) by using nothing more than a cold unsterilized pocket knife, while the wounded patient is leaning against a tree and the whole thing is accomplished within seconds too! As soon as the bullet is out, the patient is on his horse, giving one heck of a chase to the unfortunate perpetrator. They don't make hired guns this tough no more.

Cinematography of Ernest Laszlo is beyond compare. Most of the shots is worthy of a calendar page.

A beautifully shot m ovie in which Ernest Borgnine and a very young Charles Bronson also do their parts.

A 6 out of 10.

America's Long Running TV Show: The Simpsons

The Simpsons is arguably television's most beloved family and is the longest running American sitcom and the longest running American animated television program of all time. The Simpsons made their television debut on April 19, 1987 on the Tracey Ullman Show, in a cartoon short called Good Night. The Simpsons creator, Matt Groening first conceived the idea while in a office lobby. The initial appearance of the Simpson family was drawn poorly, Groening said this was due to the fact that he couldn't draw well , so the animators traced over his drawings.

The Simpsons was truly an alternative animated television show to all of the other Cartoons being put out at the time. The Simpsons features a family living in a small town called Springfield, the U.S. state of the town is unknown. The famil y is made up of Homer Simpson, who is the man of the house, he is an overweight safety inspector at the towns power plant, he often gives bad advice. Marge Simpson is Homer's wife and the lady of the house, she is a stay at home mother and she is the rational one who tries to keep peace in her crazy home. Bart Simpson is Homer and Marge's 10 year old son, he's always in trouble at school and at home. Lisa Simpson, is Bart's little sister, she's a philosophical free thinking 8 year old who loves to play the saxophone and solve the worlds problems. Maggie is the youngest daughter of Homer and Marge and never speaks, she communicates by sucking her pacifier.

Many people liked The Simpsons shorts on the Tracey Ullman show, so in 1989 The Simpsons was made into a 30 minute television show. On December 17, 1989 The Simpsons premiered on the FOX broadcasting network as a Christmas special, it was entitled Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire. The Simpsons was the FOX netwo rk's first genuine hit television series, it was FOX's first show that appeared in the top thirty highest rated shows of the season. Several episodes of the Simpsons have been watched by audiences exceeding 20 million viewers and sometimes even 30 million.

Although The Simpsons gained a vast following in a short period of time it quickly sparked controversy with many American families. Because of Bart Simpson being portrayed as a rebel who caused trouble and got away with it hands free, many parent groups and conservatives became upset with the Bart Simpson character because they felt he was a poor role model to children. Bart Simpson t-shirts that read, Underachiever and proud of it, man! became banned in many schools across the United States, but despite this Simpsons merchandise still made over $1 billion worldwide in less than 13 months.

Today The Simpsons is still a very popular television show that still has a cult like following just like it did when it first aired. The show has aired over 350 episodes, it's been on television for over 16 years and a full length feature film is set to be released in theatres in 2007. Most television shows, real life or animated can't even last for a single season, but The Simpsons has managed to stay on television longer than any other show on American television.

CSI (DVD) Review

Nominated for 20 Emmys and 6 Golden Globes, including Best TV Series - Drama, CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) quickly rose to become the number one show on television following its Fall 2000 premiere. The brainchild of creator Anthony Zuiker, the show follows the investigations not of traditional TV detectives working the streets, but forensic scientists who unravel complicated crime mysteries in their ultra-modern laboratory. Either the #1 or the #2 Nielsen rated show since the start of its second season, CSI has helped CBS to reemerge as the #1 network television station, spawning (similar to predecessor Law & Order) two series spin-offs CSI: Miami and CSI: New York. Each exciting hour-long episode begins with the theme song Who Are You by The Who, a song more than befitting of a show where criminals are aggressively tracked down, sometimes years after committing their crimes

CSI focuses on the Las Vegas Police Department's Crime Scene Investigation nightshift unit headed by Gil Grissom (William Petersen), a quirky outsider whose obsessive quest for the facts and dedication to his work dominates his life. The CSI team is composed of a number of individuals with differing backgrounds and personalities - single mother Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) specializes in blood-splatter analysis, the highly competitive Nick Stokes (George Eads) specializes in hair and fiber analysis, recovering gambling addict Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan) specializes in audio/visual analysis, and the rambunctious Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) specializes in materials and element analysis. Throw in hard-nosed homicide captain Jim Brass (Paul Guifoyle), CSI understudy Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda), and lab coroner Al Robbins (Robert David Hall) and all the ingredients are present for a show wrought with suspense, drama, and tension. As transients from all walks of life travel to Las Vegas to enjoy the wonders of its adult playground, increased levels of crime accomp any them, and the team at CSI is determined to stay a step ahead of the criminal element

The CSI DVD features a number of dramatic episodes including the series premiere in which Grissom investigates a murder police believe was staged to look like a suicide, but only minute tidbits of physical evidence are available to work with. Meanwhile, Warrick and Catherine investigate a local drunk who was shot to death while breaking into the home where he was staying, and Nick investigates a robbery Other notable episodes from Season 1 include Friends & Lovers in which Grissom and Warrick investigate the murder of a man found naked in the desert while Catherine and Nick investigate the murder of a school's headmaster by the school's founder, and Too Tough To Die in which the CSI investigates the rape and attempted murder of a woman abducted from a mall parking lot

Morpheus the Sansei and Neo the Hero

All through the film The Matrix, typical characters play a primary role in portraying the films main messages. Cypher, the charlatan, displays the idea of reality not being what it seems, while Morpheus converses the theme of fighting for what one believes in and acts as the sansei to Neo. The Hero, Neo, exposes the theme of the seek for self-discovery. The movies core messages of appearance vs. reality, fighting for ones ideals, and the pursuit for self-enlightenment are correspondingly established through the archetypical characters of Cypher the cheater, Morpheus the sansei, and Neo the messiah.

Cypher follows the role of the cheat throughout the film. The name Cypher refers to the word cipher, which interprets as, to put in secret writing or encode; this name fits him because he betrays the reb els into believing that he is on the good side while in fact he is working for the agents. The one example of this occurs at the beginning of the film when Trinity asks Cypher Are you sure this line is clean? and Cypher lies by answering Yeah, course Im sure. After doing this, Trinity almost gets killed by the agents. This demonstrates that Cypher is not an associate to the revolutionaries, but a collaborator with the agents. Subsequently, he drops his cell phone into a garbage can with the intention that the agents will be able to trace the rebels exit point, annihilate Neo, and capture Morpheus. This shows that he is no longer loyal to the rebels and has other objectives in mind. Finally, after leaving the matrix earlier than the rebels from a telephone stand, Cypher murders Switch, Apoc, and Dozer, but is unable to kill Tank. This co-worker of the rebels has now been discovered to be a vile defrauder. The insurgents were unable to conceive that Cypher was working for the agents, are betrayed by him and learn their delusion of Cyphers morals.

Cypher was unable to eliminate Neo because of the sandier Neo had in Morpheus. Morpheus flaunts his plethoric bravery as a warden of Neo by risking his own life and the lives of the other mutineers in order to stop the surmise of Neo at the strong hands of the agents. Furthermore, Morpheus depicts his father-like character when he dares being heard by the agents and tries to reach the operator, Tank. In this example, Morpheus is implying that in order to save the life of Neo, the rebels must risk being sought out by the agents because Neo is the chosen one and he must remain alive. Moreover, Morpheus risks his life by jumping through the wall to battle an agent so that Trinity can escort Neo back to the real world. Morpheus declares take him Trinity, he is the one (Wachowski). Morpheus believes so blindly that Neo is the one that he sacrifices his own life to preserve the life of Neo a nd the other revolutionaries. Thirdly, when the sentinels are attacking the Nebuchadnezzar, the rebels hovercraft, Morpheus delays using the Electro Magnetic Pulse because he strongly believes that Neo will return safely. Trinity says you cant use that until Neo is out and Morpheus replies I know. Dont worry, hell make it. By jeopardizing the lives of Trinity, Tank, and himself, Morpheuss faith in Neo being the one is illustrated. For that reason, Morpheus battles diligently for his belief that Neo is the chosen one.

Morpheus nurtures Neo, the Hero, who is on a mission to establish self-enlightenment and self-knowledge. To illuminate this, Morpheus tells Neo that he is the one and provides him with information on what the one is. This information helps Neo comprehend what the selected one is and wh y Morpheus believes he is it. It also aids Neo in discerning what his purpose is in the real world. Secondly, Neo visits the Oracle so that she can point him on his course towards self-enlightenment. She shows him a quote on the wall in Latin; when translated into English, the Oracle says it reads: Know thyself (Wachowski). This helps Neo understand that he must believe that he is the one in order for the prophecy to be fulfilled. Finally, in the last moments of the film, Neo achieves self-enlightenment and self-knowledge. He is able to halt bullets and view the coding of the matrix because he is the one. At this point in time he realizes he has achieved self-enlightenment and believes he is the chosen one.

The films focal messages of sub reality versus reality, crusading for ones principles, and the quest for self-knowledge are correspondingly verified through the archetypal characters of Cypher the trickster, Morpheus the father, and Neo the Hero. The trickster, Cypher, was unable to achieve his goal of being reinstated into the matrix. Morpheus, the father, discovers the one in Neo just as the Oracle had prophesied and lastly Neo, the one and the Hero, concludes his journey to acquire self-enlightenment and self-knowledge. Hopefully Neo will be able to use his powers to liberate human serfs from the hands of artificial intelligence and retake the world that people once called home.

Review of Hells Kitchen

Hells Kitchen, a cooking-based reality television show, is most known for its crass and cacophonous British chef Gordon Ramsay. The US version of Hell's Kitchen follows in the footsteps of the UK television series, the original Hells Kitchen, which was broadcast in the UK in 2004. The first American season (the show is now in its second season) premiered on FOX in 2005, with Season Two premiering in June of 2006. It has since been announced that a third season of the show will air on FOX in the Summer of 2007.

The premise of the show features twelve contestants (with restaurant experience ranging from executive chef to waiter) who are competing to own their own million dollar restaurant. The contestant group features men and women of all ages, some who have been cooking in top American restaurants and others who have been cooking only for their families. Friction and drama occurs largely based upon this wide range of experience and dueling egos, but is also exacerbate d by the rages and incessant insults doled out by head chef Ramsay.

As with the British show, the contestants are divided up into a red team and the blue team and compete in a series of cooking challenges, ranging from creating a five-course meal from last evenings leftovers to setting the perfect five-star restaurant table in the smallest amount of time. Each week, the best member from the losing team during the latest service period (best as determined by Ramsay) is asked to nominate two of their fellow teammates for elimination; one of these two is sent home by Gordon Ramsay.

The second season of Hells Kitchen featured two teams divided by gender. The winner was promised an executive chef position at the billion dollar Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino, as well as a financial interest in the restaurant.

Despite its popularity, critics and audiences alike have panned the show, citing that the drama is based solely on Ramsay's insults and his ability to humi liate both contestants and restaurant patrons.

Mafioso Mentality

At the beginning of the film Michael Corleone returns from war to a doubtful future and attends a family wedding. It becomes evident from the very beginning that Michael does not want to follow the steps of his family and embark on a Mafioso lifestyle. We are given the feeling that Don Vito Corleone respects his sons will not to pursue such a lifestyle even though each of his other sons are predominantly involved in the family business and for this reason alone it can be construed that he is Don Vitos beloved son and the one in which he takes the most interest. Despite Michaels apparent wishes not to become occupied with the family business it is obvious that he cannot ignore his feelings of loyalty and devotion to them or his natural ability to take a role of responsibility and mantle within the family.

Don Vito Corleone is an aging godfather/patriarch who is the head of the Corleone crime family in the New York boroughs. The opening of the film is located at a family wedding, the one in which we see Michael return after the war, and in this scene we see just how far the Dons power extends; from a regular worker in the neighbourhood, to an immensely popular and famous singer, to his friends in politics, all are links of his who are ready to ask favours of him due to his high stature and ability to provide gangland justice in return for them to offer their respect to him and repay such favours. As the film progresses it becomes evident that times are changing, and to many of the younger people working in the crime business, Don Corleone's ideas are becoming obsolete. The Don believes the new trend in the business of dealing and supplying drugs is dangerous and above all extremely immoral compared to his other business interests. He also for sees that families dealing with drugs would eventually end up self-destroying and that drugs are in a completely different league to his other interests and deals involving alcohol and gambling.

The baptism scene near the end of The Godfather comes because of Vitos death and is extremely relevant in portraying and confirming how embroiled Michael has become and it concludes his transformation from that of the youngest son wanting nothing to do with the family lifestyle to the ruthless head of the crime family he has become, a fate he secretly despised previously. The scene is highly significant and climatic because it employs a number of techniques that make it so dramatic. The scene is also so significant and climatic as a number of plot elements are resolved. During the scene cross-cut editing is used intensively to emphasize simultaneous events in a way that is not seen anywhere else in the film.

As Michael declares his faith, cross cutting continues and we witness the assassins draw ever closer to their victims. During this entire scene the sound of what is going on in the ceremony is played over all cross cuts and this includes the sound of the baby crying, perhaps symbolic of the imminent danger that is drawing close to the planned victims viewed in the cross cuts. The priest then asks Michael Do you renounce Satan as he replies I Do the scene cross cuts to the first murder where Clemenza kills two people in the lift. The dialogue between Michael and the Priest continues throughout the sequence while cutting back and forth between close-ups of Michael, and th en people being killed. Michaels reaction is very important here as he knows what is going on elsewhere in the city on his behalf and even with this knowledge his face remains emotionless and blank showing he feels no kind of sorrow for what is going on and we now establish all his values have been lost to the lifestyle he has become hardened to. In one cross cut shot a man falls down a flight of stairs after being shot, perhaps symbolising the downfall of the power shared by the other families and the turn over of power and control to Michael.

During the course of the film Michael degenerates from an ashamed member of a notorious crime family he wants nothing to do with in a business sense to a ruthless, cold blooded and emotionless head of the family he was once so ashamed of and reluctant to mix with. By the end of the Baptism scene Michaels complete transformation has been concluded and the young Michael first seen at the beginning of the film is a distant memory by the time he has been engulfed by power and following his familys values despite the vast amounts of corruption and dishon esty that has come with following such values that in the first instance of the film he would not have considered being involved or associated with.

American Idol Wannabees: Do Us All A Favor?

Don't practice. Dress funny.

Seriously. That's why we watch. We love to see you struggle, embarrass yourselves & get tortured by Simon.

Come on, admit it. You like it too, right?

Sure, Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson made us cheer and dial the phone until our fingers were raw (I nearly cried when my pick for 2004, Fantasia Barrino, won), but the real joy comes from watching those of you who don't have a chance.

Who will forget William Hung's painful, yet stoic audition? It'll go down in history as one of the best moments on TV.

But, have you ever wondered why we find pleasure in seeing others fail so miserably in public?

The answer is simple: There but for the grace of God, go I.

I'll be the first to admit it: I have no Singing talent. I know it. So do my neighbors. But would I dare to go on national TV, even if I thought I had an ounce of Vocal ability? No way. I'm not brave enough.

You see, we laugh at you & discuss your misery at work the next morning after the show, but deep down inside, we're jealous of you.

That's right, jealous.

We're jealous because you're willing to take that chance that most of us never will. We'll all die wondering What if?.

Not you though, you're different. You're willing to be exposed before a Nation. You're willing to be mocked, and made fun of. You have heart. You choose to live your life the way you want & not worry about what the rest of us think of you.

You have the guts to do what 99% of us don't. You put your heart on your sleeve & let it all hang out.

So, mock you we may, but when we go to sleep at night, we're all secretly dreaming that we were the ones up there on the TV screen.

Go for it. Make us laugh. Make us proud. Make us jealous.

Video Production

Video production is the process of producing a video that usually has both audio and visual representations. While some videos are home videos produced for fun, most are videos that are produced for commercial purposes, like Movies, advertisement videos, and music videos. Video production is also done for corporate purposes.

There are many things to consider in the production of a video. During the pre-production stage, the budget for the production of the video has to be determined, since the time spent on production can prove costly. Greater time spent on planning and organizing the project would help in keeping the costs low in the long run. One estimate of average production costs put a range of $1,500 to $5,000 per finished minute. The production cost depends on the location, time taken for compl etion, the equipment used, and the involvement of the production team in the making of the video. Plus, there are always the unanticipated expenses.

The production process starts with setting up the equipment needed for the shoot. Some of the necessary equipment includes a camera, tripod, teleprompter, monitors, power supplies, jib, dolly, and other essential accessories. The next stage consists of setting up the lighting. This is an important stage since lighting should reflect the mood intended for the scene. At this stage, the director gets involved to ensure that everything is in place to conduct a smooth filming. The audio stage is when the various pieces of audio equipment needed to capture and record audio are put in place. The final stage is when the actual filming and taping of the video takes place. This is the stage when all the visual and audio components are put together.

Even though video production is the actual stage of producing a video, the two other stages of pre-production and post-production are equally important. The pre-production stage involves conceptualizing, scripting, and scheduling. The post-production stage involves the off-line activities of editing and duplication.

Lord Of The Rings The Two Towers

The portrayal of Gollum/Smagol in the second installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy provides an excellent demonstration of split/mind duality in action. The conversations, disagreements and arguments iterated by these two characters as good versus evil, victim versus manipulator, self verses self - give us insight to the very same battles that go on, often unnoticed, within our own psyche.

Tolkien introduces the character of Gollum (originally Smagol) in The Hobbit when Bilbo finds the ring and spares his life. Frodo and Sam first meet Gollum when he attempts to retrieve the Ring the Precious while Frodo sleeps. At that point he is subdued and captured, finally being dragged unceremoniously along at the end of a rope, protesting loudly.

Gollums obsession with the Ring has so corrupted him emotionally and physically, he is no longer recognizable as one of the River Folk. An analogy with the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden can be seen. The Ring is an icon of absolute power for its own sake. It has a will of its own. This is the representation that we have a will separate from Gods. The ring is the symbol of our usurpation of God, using all His power for our own corrupt purpose, wrecking havoc upon all of mankind and ultimately leading to our own demise.

However, Gollums total resistance to Frodo begins to waver when Frodo extends compassion to him and defends him to Sam. Frodo, having heard of his Uncle Bilbos encounter with Gollum then calls him by his true name Smagol. This invokes a memory of an earlier innocence and happiness which creates a pause in the thought process of Gollum and allows for a different response.

Gollum is the character that Smagol became in his obsessive idolatry of the Ring. He is isolated, grievous, defensive, manipulative and alone. Frodo makes a break in that wall of defense by simply referring to another self that still exists behind the wall. This i s the self that existed before the fall.

The full impact of the split mind becomes evident in the second scene where the internal dialog which is played out between Smagol and Gollum is shown as two opposing personalities in a debate with each other. Smagol portrays the essential goodness it is the original condition before the corruption of the ring which made Gollum. Gollum is the hard Egoic shell created to protect and maintain the self under siege in a world which must be bent on the same destructive premise as he. But Frodo recognizes that Smagol is not so different from a Hobbit; he sees the innocence behind the corruption as his own, and by the action of Forgiveness, ensures his own Salvation. The Savior saves his brother and by so doing saves himself.

Smagols ideas are thus protested and countered inevitably by Gollum. Where would you be without me? Gollum demands. Smagols response I dont need you anymore master will protect me now is his declaration of trust in his Savior. Its here that Smagol experiences singularity and to his delight Gollum (his split mind) disappears. He immediately experiences a lightheartedness as a result of laying down the burden of self reliance.

In this new, uncertain world, where my own best interest is unknown, Frodo appears to betray Smagol (but has actually saved his life), Smagol restores Gollum to the role of protector because Master has tricksed us!. His decision to switch allegiance from Frodo to Gollum (himself) is made on incomplete information in which he knows only that hes been captured and beaten. He is unable to see the larger pic ture. The split mind (Gollum) as self protection in the dream, reappears.

The nature of passion in duality is that it swings wildly and unpredictably between love and hatred. As Gollum nurses his grievance, he plots the murder of both Sam and Frodo by leading them into a dangerous situation where they will fall victim to She, a carnivorous spider. His rage and disappointment at Frodos betrayal can only be assuaged by a total revenge. The payment demanded is the death of the Savior.

The parallel with the human split mind undergoing a spiritual transformation is obvious. The process outlined in The Development of Trust in the Course in Miracles describes how reluctantly but with increasing confidence, trust is moved away from the self-concept, to the Self that knows. It reflects surrender (n ot sacrifice) to an alternative not within the former mind construct of the Teacher of God. This trust results in a confidence and certainty not previously available.

The scenes with Smagol/Gollum highlight the impossible dialogue that churns on incessantly within the mind that tries to solve its own problems. It is found to be a redundant and futile exercise which feeds on itself bringing increasing chaos and uncertainty. As Jesus succinctly puts it My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world. Despite apparent setbacks the journey home has commenced.

Finding Music For Your Indie Movie For Little Or No Money

A majority of indie filmmakers, myself included, do not have the money to hire a music supervisor or professional composer to score their movie. Let alone can we afford to license or pay royalties to top musicians to use their songs or tracks on the Soundtrack. I had produced a urban action movie, Consignment, that had a very limited amount of money to spend on music. Turns out after some additional post-production expenses I had zero to spend.

Movies need music. There really is no way to argue against it. Good music adds impact, emotion, and mood to a film. Tartantino has made amazing use of music in his films. Many viewers have commented that the music is like a character itself.

I was faced with the choices of putting the completion of Consignment on hold indefinitely until more mon ey could be raised for the Soundtrack or trying to find quality music that I could get for free or as close to free as possible. Not wanting to put the movie on hold I set out to shake some trees for music that moved me. It was a gamble I hoped would work.

I checked out some companies on the internet selling royalty free music in all types of genres from rock & roll to world beat for very affordable prices. Type 'royalty free music' into a search engine to listen and shop around. I listened to tons of sample tracks. Most didn't fit the feel of Consignment. A few tracks I did like were out my budget.

A cool thing I did discover is there are some filmmaker friendly sites that will allow you to download free original music to use in your movie. All they ask is that you properly credit the creators behind the music. Sonny Boo offers this on his website. I did not end up using the free downloads, but I think it's good karma they put it out there.

The anxiety and stress of not finding the right music was becoming a mental drain. Nothing worse than the thought of your movie not getting done. I decided to try a different approach to getting the Soundtrack squared away. I was going to contact independent bands, artists, and musicians directly with the chance to get exposure on a independent films Soundtrack. Indie artists from the music and movie arena collaborating sounded like a win-win.

There's many places to find independent artists and record labels looking to get their music heard. What better way than to be featured on a movie Soundtrack? I religiously set aside hours everyday to listen to music from up and coming artists. After I had a narrowed down list of the tracks I wanted to use on Consignment I tracked down these artists and record labels contact information.

My independent music campaign was launched. I emailed, phoned, and faxed my pitch to the people on my list. I was excited about adding music I believed would add tremendously to the overall viewing experience of the movie. It was a tougher sell than I thought to get independent artists and record labels to contribute to an indie movie Soundtrack.

My pitch was truthful about only offering credit for their music. My advice is not to BS people. Be upfront. I let them know this was a indie movie without big names or a Hollywood budget.

Here's the rundown of how it played out for me using this approach. I was able to land the music of two artists I felt was perfect. Another artist was interested, but was honest enough to voice their concerns about not knowing how the movie would look when it was done and decided not to contribute to the Soundtrack. After Consignment was done I sent them a DVD. They liked it and agreed to compose an original track for my next movie for free.

Most of the record labels ignored my requests or said no money meant no go. I respect that. One record label representative took the time to speak with me at length and made a point that stuck with me. He basically said until you have a name or a movie you've done to show your work people will be skeptical about lending their music to your indie movie. There not against cross-promotion and exposure. There against being associated with terrible movie and bad exposure. That made a lot of sense.

With a few tracks secured that I liked I decided to go directly to the people to find the rest of the music. Consignment being a urban action movie I wanted some hot hip hop tracks. I started hitting websites that had hip hop forums where people could list links to their demos, post beats, and battle other hip hop artists. I posted open calls for artists to submit their tracks for an urban movie.

I got a huge response, but it was chaotic dealing with the amount of tracks that came in. Plus their were obvious copyright infringem ents and looping done by some contributers. Last thing you want is music on your movie that causes legal problems for your movies release when you sign on with a distributor. I wasn't making a bootleg underground movie to sell out of the trunk of my car. I was going for mainstream rental and retail outlets. I took the time to get all the releases, clearances, and paper work on the movie. I was going to do the same for the music.

After seeing my post I was contacted by the fellas at Jackin4Beats.Com about helping me out. They streamlined and organized the submission process. They posted calls for music on their website for free. Their efforts increased the quality of the submissions ten fold. They only forwarded me tracks that were free and clear to use on the Soundtrack with no legal worries. All music clearance forms were signed on the dotted line.

The buzz was there. Next a rising independent music label specializing in West Coast hip hop wanted to be on the Soundtrack. They headed into the studio with the synopsis of the movie and cut an original track with the same name as the movie. This song brought and hit hard. I used it on the opening and closing credits of the film. Then I got some tracks from some emerging East Coast rappers with a latin edge that put the Soundtrack over the top. These talented artists music rounded out the Soundtrack. They understood it's about exposure.

I wanted to touch on my experience and they way I got the movie Soundtrack done. There's a lot of avenues for you to land the right music for your movie. Obviously the more money the more choices, but money doesn't have to cut you at the knees making you put bad music on your movie.

There's talented artists and upstart record labels in the same boat as you grinding it out to make in the entertainment business. Everyone is looking for a break. Sometimes you can get it together to make it work and sometimes you can't. Just keep fighting to get what you want. Never settle for music you hate for the sake of completing your movie. You will regret the end product. It won't be easy to secure music you love, but isn't your movie worth the effort?

Airplane (DVD) Review

Winner of an astounding, yet not unprecedented zero Academy Awards, Airplane is arguably one of the funniest Movies ever made. Long before The Naked Gun, Jim Abrahams and David Zucker teamed up to write this outrageous comedy hit which spoofs the airline disaster Movies prevalent throughout the 1970s. Starring a diverse cast with a wide range of experience from Hollywood, Broadway, and the NBA, Airplane follows the exploits of a number of characters such as Ted Striker (Robert Hays), Roger Murdock (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), and Otto The Inflatable Pilot (as himself), all of whom will keep you laughing in the aisles for one hour plus...

Whe n ex-fighter pilot Ted Striker is released from the hospital following the mental strain of his war experience, he decides to seek out and reconnect with the love of his life, Elaine Dickinson (Julie Hagerty), a woman who broke off their relationship due to Strikers various problems (among which is a drinking problem, that is, Strikers inability to pour liquid into his mouth!) Now an airline stewardess, Elaine is emphatic in her assertion that she will never get back together with Ted. Unwilling to take no for an answer, and certain he can prove hes overcome the problems of his past, Ted follows Elaine on her flight.

All goes well until several passengers get sick. Victims of spoiled food, almost everyone on the plane stands on the brink of death as the pilots themselves pass out. One of the few who is not ill, Ted is called upon to land the plane in their absence. But his haunting war memories and fear of flying foreshadow a great disaster. With the help of Elaine, Dr . Rumack (Leslie Nielsen), and Otto The Inflatable Pilot, Ted faces his fears and attempts to bring the plane in for a safe landing. Helping him from the ground are Steven McCrosky (Lloyd Bridges) and Capt. Rex Kramer (Robert Stack), a military man intimately familiar with the abilities of Ted Striker

Interspersed throughout Airplane are an endless number of one-liners, oddities, wordplay dialogue, and crazy antics. This is one Movie you might have to watch several times before you catch every great line, because the humor saturates every scene. You wont find a single dull moment in Airplane. In fact, you might even learn a few disco moves from Ted and Elaine, not to mention Capt. Oveur and his co-pilot Roger!

With a truly impressive cast for a spoof, cult comedy classic (Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridg es, and Leslie Nielsen among others), Airplane will forever remain among the hallowed elite of the best comedy films ever produced. Unlike most modern-era comedies, which tend to reflect many of the trends and fads of the day, Airplane seems to gain new altitude with each generation to which its introduced. Like Johnny Carson, its wit and humor transcends every level of American life, making for an enjoyable and laughable Movie watching experience. As a result, Airplane is a no-brainer in the category of must-see films. If you havent seen it (hard to believe), then I highly recommend renting it immediately

Is the American Dream on TV Tonight?

As many boomers like myself can attest to, we watched the Beaver grow up in an ideal household run by his father, Ward Cleaver. He was a businessman who was a clone of Jim Anderson, Father Knows Best, Steve Douglas, My Three Sons, Ozzie Nelson, Ozzie and Harriet, and probably many other perfect dads. With the exception of Ricky Ricardo, and Ralph Kramden, most families lived in nice, middle-class houses with the proverbial white picket fence and few problems. Drinking and drugs were non-existent. The weekly issue revolved around the school dance or some other benign social ill. Money was never mentioned, let alone minorities, crime, addictions, or any off-color humor. Instead, life was good, wholesome, and rewarding. At the end, a moral that summed up the theme always accompanied the show. In short, it w as Pleasantville.

For me, it symbolized everything I hoped to achieve as a teen growing up in the 60s. All I had to do was study hard, keep out of trouble, and I would go on to college, get my athletic letter for swimming, meet and then marry my sweetheart there too, graduate, and go right into a terrific job I would keep until I retired. Whew, that was a mouthful. But it seemed pretty easy at the time. After all, Wally Cleaver, Ricky Nelson, and Bud Anderson were doing it, so why not me? Okay, so maybe I was a little naive. But Television wouldnt lie, would it? Just look at TV shows that followed over the next few decades. Everyone was good-looking, flush with money, and an expert crime-solver or doctor or lawyer. They hardly ever got sick, had auto accidents, got into serious trouble or even messed their hair or makeup during a crisis.

Of course we realize this is make-believe. People on screen cant possibly be real. They never go to the bathroom, hardly ever take time to eat, sleep, pay bills, buy groceries, or get bored. But they represent a cross-section of a virtual society that the writers think you want to see. Over the years, they have been less than perfect as the producers struggle to attract the common man. To that end, they have given us characters like Columbo, disheveled and forgetful, and lately House, a cripple who hates everyone, and Monk, whos phobic of everything. But these are exceptions to the pretty and more perfect people that abound.

So is this a problem? Is it any worse than super-thin models in womans magazines or men with rock-solid abs in fitness publications? Doesnt it just give us something to reach for or is it an unrealistic and unachievable goal? Television and movies should be entertaining and escapism. But they also reflect current social norms. Does every generation recognize that fact or are they unduly influenced? Since the ban on cigarette advertising, very few movies show smoking which used to be so common in the forties and Fifties both on TV and in the movies. Movies can get an X rating for too much sex and violence. Censors keep Television under control, according to moral standards. Yet we are always pushing the limits of good taste. Irregardless of those facts, who is the newest Ward Cleaver and therefore which TV father would you like to emulate?

Lets take a look. Ed in Married with Children is a terrible father and husband. Jim in According to Jim is a jerk. Homer Simpson is an idiot. Okay, maybe sit-coms arent the answer. After all, the women are always smarter and prettier although the kids are often out off control. There are the obligatory eccentric neighbors and relatives. Its like real Jerry Springer families without the live audience. So who is the new ideal? Can it be Dr. Phil and his wife Robin? But hes a real psychologist so it isnt fair. We need new role models to look up to. Perhaps they can colorize old Leave it to Beaver episodes and digitally insert cell phones, plasma TVs and computers. Then this generation can see what a true American Dream family is all about. Television producers, are you listening or reading? And for you old Mickey Mouse club members out there, get your ears on.

Northern Exposure (DVD) Review

Nominated for 39 Emmys, including 4 nominations for Outstanding Drama Series in just six short seasons, Northern Exposure is one of the most unique television shows of its time. Half-drama, half-comedy, the show built itself a large cult following, experiencing widespread critical acclaim as well as viewer popularity. The brainchild of St. Elsewhere creators Joshua Brand and John Falsey, Northern Exposure premiered in July 1990 on CBS, lasting only five years (cancelled in July 1995). But the show's cutting edge wit and originality have earned it a place among the most hallowed and venerable of TV classics

Northern Exposure follows the exploits of recent medical school graduate Joel Fleishman (Rob Morrow) who, failing to read the fine print in the government papers accompanying his student loans, is forced to practice medicine for several years in the frozen tundra of Alaska. Even more unsettling is that he'll be the only doctor in the small logging township of Cicel y, a place filled with oddball characters and never short of strange occurrences. The wealthy entrepreneur, ex-NASA astronaut Maurice Minnifield owns Cicely and is determined to turn it into an ideal vacation paradise (with Fleishman being part of his plan). Other notable characters throughout Cicely include beautiful bush pilot (and Fleishman love interest) Maggie O'Connell (Janine Turner), KBHR radio deejay Chris Stevens (John Corbett), aspiring filmmaker Ed Chigliak (Darren E. Burrows), and husband/wife team Holling (John Cullum) and Shelly Vincoeur (Cynthia Geary) who run the local watering hole, The Brick. With its classic fish out of water theme, Northern Exposure provides some memorable moments as hero Joel Fleishman learns to appreciate the finer points of rural Alaska

The Northern Exposure DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the series premiere in which the recently graduated Joel Fleishman arrives in Anchorage, Alaska, intent on fulfilling h is contractual obligations with the government. But when Anchorage doesn't him, Joel is transferred to the remote town of Cicely where the residents are determined to prolong his stay Other notable episodes from Season 1 include Soapy Sanderson in which a hermit takes Joel's advice to get his estate in order and leaves all of his land holdings to Joel and Maggie, and A Kodiak Moment in which Maurice adopts the ex-con radio deejay Chris to be his Minnifield heir

Below is a list of episodes included on the Northern Exposure (Season 1) DVD:

The Shield (DVD) Review

Nominated for 4 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes, including Best Television Series - Drama, The Shield is one of the top police dramas of the past decade. The brainchild of creator Shawn Ryan, writer for such hit shows as Nash Bridges (1996) and Angel (1999), The Shield made history in 2003 by becoming the first basic cable series to win a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series (in the past, only non-ad supported shows such as The Sopranos and Sex And The City have done so well). The hour-long drama boasts a strong, well-rounded cast who, along with the writers/producers, have managed to make The Shield the longest running series on the FX Network

The Shield centers around an inner-city Los Angeles police precinct where the lines between right and wrong are often blurred. An ongoing power struggle between a group of corrupt, yet effective, cops and their new boss, Capt. David Aceveda (Benito Martinez), remains the focal point of the show. Det. Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis, of Th e Commish) heads up an elite unit known as the Strike Team. An effective leader who bends the rules when they fit his aims, Mackey often butts heads with the by-the-book Aceveda who weighs his own political ambitions against the cost of bringing down Mackey and his associates. Veteran Det. Claudette Wyms (CCH Pounder, of ER) knows the ropes, admires Mackey, but also knows how to play sides of the game. For the 2005 season, Glenn Close - star of such films as The Natural (1984), Fatal Attraction (1987), and Air Force One (1997) - joined the cast as Capt. Monica Rawling. Together, this celebrated cast maintains an internal tension among themselves while carrying out a unified fight against the criminal element - a fight that keeps the streets of L.A. safe

The Shield DVD features a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere in which the Strike Team has tightened its stranglehold over the precinct. Capt. Aceveda tries to crack down on the corruption in his f orce by recruiting an insider (Det. Terry Crowley) to help take down Vic Mackey, but the operation only results in the Crowley's death. In the interim, Det. Wyms and her partner Det. Dutch Wagenbach (Jay Karnes) investigate the murder of a woman only to discover that her missing daughter was sold off to a child molester by her drug addict father Other notable episodes from Season 1 include Dawg Days in which Mackey attempts to establish a cease-fire between two rival gangs whose ongoing feud threatens the peace, and Dragonchasers in which Mackey tries to help a crack addict quit so she can maintain custody of her son while Dutch tracks down a serial killer

Science Fiction DVD

The world of Science fiction is a vast one. Millions of fans enjoy their science fiction collection for many different reasons. For example, a science fiction DVD may have tremendous monetary value, sentimental value, or just the value of enjoyment. Whatever the reasons science fiction fans have raised the popularity of owning their own science fiction DVD.

One extremely popular reason of watching science fiction DVDs is that they can be watched over and over again. Some of your favorite television show episodes have now arrived on DVD, which means you can watch your favorite show as many times as you want to, commercial free. Furthermore, fans of science fiction take great pride in owning every science fiction DVD available in a certain category, Movie, of a specific actor, or of a television series. They make for great bragging rights when you attend your next sci-fi convention.

What is great about a science fiction collection is that it can be steadily built, with very little monetary investment for the most part. Now do not get me wrong, some specific science fiction DVD may cost you quite a bit of cash. However, for the most part, you can build an extremely vast collection without much of a dent in your wallet. For example, if you are looking to build your science fiction collection or start one for the first time, you could consider looking online to find a cheap science fiction DVD.

There are many places you can look, for example, there are complete websites available to you on the internet that caters only to science fiction fans and Movies. Furthermore, you can save even more money by visiting auction sites such as eBay or find a wholesale distributor to save money on a science fiction DVD. Some other places you may be able to save big money on your science fiction collection is in general merchandise stores such as Wal-Mart or K-Mart.

You do have the option of shopping at specialize Movie stores; however, you should expect to pay a little more money at these places. You could also find a cheap science fiction DVD in a video rental store. It may be a previously viewed Movie, but it will still be cheaper than buying elsewhere.

Many fans looking to buy a science fiction DVD, may not even watch the DVD at all. It may be a special part of their collection. After all, many things are worth more when still in the original packaging, in mint condition, and has never been opened or used. This gives the science fiction more trading and selling power. Trading a science fiction DVD is a popular activity in the collecting world. Perhaps one person has a real desire to have a DVD that is in your science fiction collection, while they may have something of equal value that you have been looking so hard for. This again, gives you trading power, especially if the science fiction DVD is in good to mint condition.

CSI: The anatomy of an Uber Franchise

The CSI formula seems very simple: film noire with copious violence mixed with high brow techie detective work. Part Quincey, Part X-files, CSI has become an international phenomenon spawning a host of extracurricular projects including two highly successful spin-offs - Csi Miami, and CSI NY. Looking back over the success of CSI, its hard to imagine that it wasnt a hit from the beginning; none-the-less, the show that came to be the yard stick for police procedurals struggled in the beginning to secure a place on the top ten in its freshman 2000 season. Just two seasons later, CSI landed in the top three most watched for the season with a staggering 26.2 million viewers; a number not so uncommon in short run high-profile reality shows like American Idol, but completely unparalleled for a drama.

Part of the CSI phenomenon has been its social impact. Suddenly millions of viewers found themselves deluged with what they thought were the essentials of crime solving. Few ot her shows purported to educate viewers more on crime solving than CSI. Surprisingly though, the techniques and procedures shown on CSI are far removed from the real world of crime investigation. In fact, a lot of the technology used on CSI doesnt even exist! This fact was so prominent in the show that the Saturn Awards, the Sci-Fi worlds equivalent of the Peoples Choice awards, nominated CSI as a science fiction show at its 2004 awards ceremony (it lost). Crime fiction purists have used CSI as a punching bag since it was released, pointing out numerous flaws in its portrayal of crime scene investigation. The most prominent is the fact that in CSI, the Crime Scene Investigators actual participate in disseminating the information gathered from the crime scene in solving the crime. In real CSIs, the team merely captures and catalogues the information which is then given over to detectives.

Regardless of whether CSI serves as a visual text book for crime scene investigatio n, The dynamic, percussive filming style of CSI, seemed to educate an entire generation of film makers looking to make a stylistic splashdown. CSIs staccato cutting, skewed frame rates, chiaroscuro lighting, and destabilized hand-held work fuse into a visual styling that has proliferated onto the big screen.

The subject matter cannot be discounted though, CSI is more than just a light show. Edgy plots that push the envelope of what is acceptable for violence and sexuality are the hallmark of the CSI motif, making CSI one of the most watched shows at the FCC offices as well. On many occasions, CBS has been admonished about the shows frequent place at the edge of acceptable broadcasting.

None-the-less, the CSI producers, and CBS, have remained true to the CSI formula. In 2002 the first attempt to replicate the CSI formula was a grand success when CSI: Miami, resurrecting a triumphant David Caruso, debuted to universal praise. While not the gate crasher that its pro genitor was, CSI: Miami opened in the top fifteen and has remained in the top ten since its debut. The second attempt, CSI: New York, has yet to break the top twenty but continues to add in excess of fifteen million viewers per season to the CSI coffers.

How long can it last? Will CSI eventual succumb to the implosion of its formula ala ER and settle into an admirable, yet degrading holding pattern? While CSI, and its offspring, dont seem to be slowing down, one can only remember that timeless aphorism that eventually all good things will come to an end.

So if you want to find our more about CSI New York or even about CSI Miami, you should visit this website CSI Crime Scene Investigation.

Hollywood Studios and the Internet a Change is Coming Like It or Not

Apple, Disney Studios, Warner Brothers, NBC Universal and even George Lucas herald a change in the way Movies are made and ultimately delivered to the public.

Apple in recent days has attempted to stake a claim on the movie download market by striking a deal with Disney Studios to deliver movie down loads. Earlier this year Warner Brothers announced an agreement with the software firm Bit torrent to enable movie Downloads to your computer. Bit torrents software application has long been the choice of peer to peer file sharing pirates because it allows fast Downloads of large files and uses very little bandwidth.

Last week Apple together with Disney studios jumped into the movie down load market and offered two key features to its movie download service. First it uses the ipod as the device for downloading. Second, knowing that the ultimate viewing choice for Movies for the public will be the television or home theatre. Apple indicates it will introduce a set top box to work with the TV thus bridging the gap between internet delivery and end users desired viewing choice.

This puts Apple in a position to capture a middleman role and to make money on a device to ease the process between the down load and final choice of viewing medium. But Bit Torrent is already working with Warner Brothers and will probably leap frog Apples device sooner or later by allowing direct Downloads to your TV receiver, fast, hig h quality and immediately playable using a high speed cable line to do it. And to go with this instant down load will be the option to burn to a DVD or store the movie on the hard drive of your tivo box or similar device.

George Lucas in an interview with CNBC earlier this year and again last week stated that the movie companies and Hollywood would have to adapt sooner or later to the new digital age, of production and distribution. When asked about file sharing and bit torrent specifically Lucas stated that it would be the future of Hollywood and that Steve Jobs and others had already grasped that concept.

The major retailers of DVDs, such as Walmart and Target have communicated to the Hollywood studios that they will not sit still for Downloads that would be cheaper than the DVDs they s ell. Apple has been responsive and is said to be discussing an agreement on the pricing of down loads from its itunes site.

As usual the big players are attempting to control how, where and at what price the next generation of Movies will be delivered to the public. All the major players want to control the delivery process but the time for that has passed. George Lucas himself said that with web sites like Youtube, film makers can show case their talent and deliver it to the public very cheaply, they dont need a Hollywood Studio.

Using the internet as a proving ground for content creation and distribution has finally come of age now that high speed internet access is so wide spread. So get ready Hollywood change is coming like it or not.

Analyze What?

Though Analyze This is not shot by an Italian-American director it still depicts Italians being dangerous to our society. I have no idea why Hollywood only focuses on bandits being the only Italians because the Mafia was originated by the Jews and many other cultures are still involved in it.

My point being that the Mafia is not fictional but it exists in many cultures. Although, in films they cast men with dark hair, dark skin, dark eyes and then they give the characters Italian names. I would like to see Italians portrayed as educated and hard working. Robert DeNiro has been type casted in so many gangster films that it is diffic ult seeing him in other more serious movies that he is not beating someone up. Its a shame because I just watched a film last week called City By The Sea, and Robert DeNiro played a more serious role. He is an excellent actor but its difficult for him to get these parts because the media loves seeing him as a gangster.

I always wondered if actors like Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci feel like they are going against their culture by degrading their ethnic backgrounds as uneducated mobsters. My father refuses to watch The Sopranos because he feels that the show is insulting his culture which I can understand. Italian Americans have worked so hard to get where they are today. Many of them like my grandfather moved to America with nothing and they worked their way up because of their skills and hard work ethic. Italian Americans who take up a large part of the population would like to see Hollywood eliminate unflattering images of their culture.

The two most popular Italian-American directors are Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese. They have made brilliant films such as The Godfather, Mean Streets and Raging Bull. I feel that these amazing directors would try and change the medias opinion of the stereotypical views of Italian Americans because of their roots but it seems they took the opposite route.

In the reading Italian-Americans in Film: From Immigrants to Icons there was an interesting section that discussed Francis Ford Coppolas opinion of The Godfather Saga. There was a quote in there that caught my eye it read, The Godfather is a fictional account of the activities of a small group of ruthless criminals. It would be erroneous and unfair to suggest that they are representative of any ethnic group. That quote completely disgusted me being that the film is shot mostly in Sicily, many segments of the film were spoken in Italian with English Subtitles, and the characters names were predominately Italia n. The awful part about all of this is that many people are not culturally aware about Italian Americans and other ethnic groups. Therefore they get most of their information and facts from these Hollywood films instead of reading a book which is a shame. I think the media would be surprised to see how educated, loving, affectionate, faithful, family oriented, and hardworking Italian-Americans really are.

In the film Analyze This, there was one scene that I remembered being ridiculous. It was the scene that showed Billy Crystal and his son driving to the celebration of his fathers book signing. He was arguing with his son and by an accident he crashed into a car in front of them. It turned out to be Paul Vittis assistants. Due to the force of the crash the car in fronts trunk popped open. It then showed a guy tied up in the trunk kicking. Two Italian-American men step out of the car close the trunk and start conversing with Billy Crystal who is all apologetic . They tell him, Its not a problem, which is a typical expression used in gangster movies. Billy Crystal is surprised to see that the two men arent upset and are so calm. Though this movie is a spoof on wiseguys it still was such an exaggerated scene that again made Italian-Americans out to be violent criminals.

Hopefully in the future Hollywood will enforce better laws about making films that criticize Italian-Americans. Also I would like to see more Italian-American directors to show more respect for their culture and start making films that depict Italian-Americans for who they really are and not what the media want to see them as because they find it entertaining.

The Simpsons (DVD) Review

Starting with the very first episode (airing December 17, 1989), The Simpsons (Season 1) DVD is packed with some of the best episodes in the show's history. All of these early episodes exhibit a bit of amateurish (by later Simpson standards) animation, seeing as how the popularity of the show had yet to land it the massive budgets of subsequent years. However, this does not take away from the shows acerbic wit which is present and in full swing throughout all thirteen of the original episodes.

A few details do stand out. Homers voice is slightly different, and he isnt as stupid as his character is later portrayed to be. But all the other Simpson family members are firmly established from the get-go. These initial episodes witness the appearance of such beloved supporting characters as Krusty the Clown, Ned Flanders, Itchy & Scratchy (although theyre just cartoons!), Monty Burns & sidekick Wayland Smithers, Patty & Selma, Martin Prince, Grandpa Simpson, Reverend Lovej oy, and a host of other highly regarded inhabitants of Springfield who have climbed their way into the hearts of America since the shows debut.

As the longest running animated show in history, and the longest running prime-time show of any type, The Simpsons is an American treasure a combination of humor, wit, and satire that examines not just the lives of its eccentric characters, but also the society, culture, and world in which we live. Fun for adults and children alike, The Simpsons is a cutting edge television comedy that, like Seinfeld, altered the television landscape in the 1990s by dictating a new genre of TV fun that spawned network investment in new animated series such as King of the Hill, Futurama, and The Family Guy.

Like all new things which smash the paradigm of life, The Simpsons is unrivaled by its knockoffs, and the show doesnt show signs of slowing down. If you havent yet visited Springfield, then I definitely recommend you pick up The Simpso ns (Season 1) DVD to catch a glimpse for yourself. You have no idea what youve been missing

The Simpsons DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the series premiere Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire in which Homers attempt to work a second job in order to buy the family a great Christmas ends in utter failure. Desperate, he and Bart drive to a local dog-racing track where they place everything they have on a dog named Santas Little Helper. The dog is an utter failure, but the Simpson Christmas is salvaged when the family receives a special gift Other notable episodes include Bart The Genius in which Bart switches his I.Q. test with that of Martin Prince, the class brain. As a result, he ends up being placed in an advanced school where hes overwhelmed by expectations. And Krusty Gets Busted in which Barts hero, Krusty the Clown, is videotaped robbing the Kwik-E-Mart, prompting everyone but Bart to turn against him

Below is a list of episodes included o n The Simpsons (Season 1) DVD:

Spiderman

Often times when Movie makers choose to make Movies about famous characters, like Spiderman, things go wrong. After all, the fans of Spiderman expected a lot when they heard about the Movie coming out. The good news is that with Spiderman, and Spiderman 2, the creators got it right. Fans were thrilled and still are today.

Cast

One of the best things the casting directors did for Spiderman was hire Tobey Maguire. Maguire is someone you would not likely think of as a super hero. However, that innocence was what helped him be more believable in the Movie. In addition, he was youthful enough to play the role well, without looking too young at the same time. He was physically fit enough for the challenging role. Kirsten Dunst played the leading lady and was fantastic. She really showed she is in the business to stay and looked beautiful throughout. She and Maguire had hot onscreen chemistry.

Script

The screenplay of Spiderman is exciting and en gaging. It is everything Spiderman fans could ever hope for. The whole story of how Spiderman came to be is explained in clear scenes. There is no confusion, which happens too often with films in its category. There are just talented Actors and Actresses making the story of Spiderman come to life on the big screen. It is well written and will have you on the edge of your seat many times throughout. It doesnt seem to drag on and will keep your attention as well.

Plot Points Shanghai Triad (1995)

Plot points are linear links that make up the chain of traditional Aristotelian 3-act dramatic Structure. This classic Structure worked well in Hollywood for almost a century now. Although young movie makers are forcing the limits of this Structure, plot points still rule the day as the tent poles that hold up of the circus of our dreams. Here are the plot points of Shanghai Triad (1995), as I see them.

Shanghai Triad (1995)

Starring: Gong Li, Li Baotian, Li Xuejian, Sun Chun, Wang Xiao Xiao
Directed by: Zhang Yimou
Writers: Bi Feiyu (SCreenplay), Li Xiao (Novel)

...sound of water, choppy waves lapping against the boats...

ESTABLISHING SHOT: Country boy Shuisheng (Wang Xiaoxiao), just arrived in Shanghai, is standing in the midst of the urban crowd, totally clueless as to what's going on around him. A picture of confusion, alienation and anxiety. A peasant-fish out of water.

INCITING INCIDENT: Shuisheng witnesses a murder committed by the Tang mafia clan in the warehouse to which he is taken by his uncle.

PLOT POINT 1: Shuisheng witnesses the gorgeous Bijou (Gong Li), Tang's capricious mistress, make love to Sony, the boss's right hand man.

MID POINT EVENT: Shuisheng's uncle and the gang's several other members die during a rival gang's (Fat Yu) unsuccessful attempt on Tang's life. Tang retreats to a remote small island, taking both Bijou and Shuisheng with him and thinking of revenge. [Transition to a DIFFERENT WORLD.

PLOT POINT 2: In a face to face confrontation, Tang reveals that he is fully aware of Sony's plans to assasinate him in the service of Fat Yu and the fact that Bijou slept with Sony.

3rd ACT RESOLUTION: Tang kills both Sony and Bijou, and takes Shuisheng back to Shanghai together with the small girl he met on the island to take Bijou's place in the future.

...sound of water, choppy waves lapping against Tang's boat...

Classical Movie Why It Remains Relevant For Viewers Today

So what really is considered a classical Movie? Can we simply associate as a black and white film noir thing? Containing some of those cheesy classical music? How about big powdered wigs? Do you think of the formal nature of both the characters as well as the period get-up and attire? Is a classic Movie one which garnered 10 Oscars? Or do you think a classic Movie simply one which down to the perception of the viewers and individuals?

The classical Movie IS truly one of the great inventions since we discovered hamburgers. The classical Movie is also the one show that we had the benefit of watching when we were kids, cause at the time only three television channels were available. It was during those good old Saturday afternoons and Sundays, when my dear father wasnt consumed by the sports programmes on show, when those classic Movies from the past, Movies featuring the glamour girls and the guys that inspired us boys to want to be cowboys, were made available for us to enjoy in all their splendour.

Though there is obviously a distinct difference between classical Movies and classical Movies with only classical period elements (music, costumes, storylines, etc.), I would like to address the delight of the classical Movie of yesterday and today that does involve only a particular period of history and does, then feature only classical period elements.

I tend to associate the black and white flicks with the beauties and the beaus, the comedies with the curmudgeons, the histories with the insights into who people were back then, like us but with an added je ne sais quoi that we must find out, learn about, and finally to appreciate in as great a depth and as wide a breadth as we can, in order to do them the justice they deserve.

Say for example, my favorite classical Movie of all time, Impromptu. This film basically enacts a couple of years in the lives of the characters George Sand, Franz Liszt, Freiderich Chopin, and the regal and wealthy folks who took artists in, allowing them to paint, create, compose, write, in exchange for wonderful company and fine entertainment. The film concentrates on Sand, who is bent on partnering with Chopin, her aggression equal in magnitude, as was his weakness. The costumes, the soundtrack, the dialogue, and the setting are all as breathtaking as the direction, technique, and the delivery of words and emotion. There is even a theme or two that humans from the beginning of time until today can identify with or appreciatethe love and hate, good and evil, as well as longing and belonging motifs that are as timeless as the Movie itself.

Other classical Movie choices I have an affinity toward are those less mainstream & popular ones. I would consider Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (though clearly POST-classical periods), Wilde, and Jefferson, for instance, as worthy of classical Movie acclaim as say Amadeus, Emma, The Piano, and any number of Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson productions.
