Too Many Sex and Violence Cases on Television News

We seem to be having way too many sex and violence court cases on Television and the media has tried to mile this for way too long. Even blowing out of proportion many cases around the nation and as it stands now there are simply; Too Many Sex and Violence Cases on Television News.

From the Duke Rape Case Trial to the Natalie Holloway case, it is a non-stop circus with lawyers as commentators and many news networks are indeed completely suffering. Fox News in fact has seen ratings go down and down and is losing its key time slot ratings and under the gun to bring the results back up? Are people simply burned out on all this? Perhaps they are, they have certainly lost me as a viewer.

How about you are you watching any of this garbage lately? Worse off have you also noticed that the segments on Television News are under 4 minutes now, apparently they think the American Public has the attention span of a Nat, like Ted Turner himself on CNN.

Well the news tel evision networks have for too long been trying to force more commercials into less time on air. Now these networks cut of every single guest so you never get any real news, just fighting back and forth? Looks more like the Apprentice Donald Trump show than anything else really. Consider all this in 2006.

8 Mile (Movie Review)

Undoubtedly, the surprise film of 2002 was 8 Mile, the story about a young white rapper in Detroit who struggles with his broken family, gold-digging friends, and simply to find his identity in the nefarious world in which he lives. Starring the best-selling rap artist Eminem, 8 Mile is supposedly autobiographical in nature, portraying the true life rise of Marshall Mathers from the hardened streets of Detroit to the gold paved highways of superstardom. But the film begins and ends in the ghetto, cataloguing the time prior to the rapper's success. As a Movie, it performs its duties well - virtually transporting the viewer to the crime and poverty riddled neighborhoods of one of America's most dangerous cities

Local youth Jimmy B-Rabbit Smith, Jr. harbors dreams of hitting the big-time as a rapper (alo ng with most of his peers in Detroit), but few are supportive of his efforts, especially his mother Stephanie (Kim Basinger), a self-centered woman who neglects her five-year-old daughter, remains unemployed, and generally wastes her life away. Her verbal battles with Jimmy are the only substantive part of their relationship.

When Jimmy gets a job working on an assembly line at a sheet metal factory, he works long hours in the dead end job making just enough money to get by. Living in a trailer with his mother so that he can save up enough money for a demo tape leads to everyday confrontations with the woman. Things begin to look up, though, when Jimmy meets Alex (Brittany Murphy), an aspiring model who shares his dreams of leaving the ghetto and pursuing a better life. But everything goes awry when Jimmy chokes at a local late-night rap showdown.

The bad news continues when Jimmy catches Alex cheating on him, his mother kicks him out, and a gang of thugs gives h im a beating - placing a gun to his head and threatening to pull the trigger.

When the opportunity arises to perform once more in the local rap showdown, all of Jimmy's dreams hinge on his ability to pull out all the stops. Can he verbally destroy his opponent and gain the notoriety necessary to put him on the map?

A surprisingly well-written screenplay wrought with symbolism, 8 Mile vividly portrays the life of an angry urban youth who aches to express his hatred for the world around him. As the dividing line between the city Detroit and the outside world, 8 Mile represents was is and what can be. The film's ability to draw the audience into a world of which they may not be a part makes this a definite must-see film. For those conservative or older viewers who may be reluctant to the see the film because of its leading star Eminem, I highly recommend giving 8 Mile a chance. If you enjoy drama and peering into unique worlds, then you might be pleasantly surprised with this one

With Sequels And Remakes On The Rise Has The Idea Pool Run Low Or Is Hollywood's Greed The Problem?

With today's movie maKing technology greatly surpassing that just 10 years prior, it's no wonder Hollywood is jumping at the chance to re-create some of history's ground-breaKing Movies, utilizing their newly-found gadgets. However, many would say it's best to move on and let the classics remain just as they were. How far is too far when it comes to modernizing films? Would a Casablanca remake starring Orlando Bloom and Charlize Theron bring big bucks or big disappointment. My personal prediction would have to be the latter. Let the classics remain classics, I say. Also, why turn TV shows of yester-year into the Movies of today? Hopefully The Dukes of Hazzard Movie and Starsky and Hutch taught the big men in Hollywood that that may not be such a good idea. I mean, there were no astounding special effects they couldn't have brought to the big screen thirty years ago. It wasn't a good idea then, and it's not a good idea now, apparently. Granted, the movie magic that original ly appeared in Batman and Superman over a decade ago seems laughable by today's standards, but that's going to happen. It's a given. It does not necessarily mean that they need to be endlessly re-created. I will give Warner Bros. their due respect, however, for being creative with Batman by avoiding Sequels and creating prequels. At least then, there is a stopping point. Is it just me, or did you think they were finally done filming the Rocky series at number 5? Of course not, seventeen years later, along comes Rocky 6! Sylvester Stallone will be in his 60s by the time this movie reaches theatres. No joke! But all ranting aside, I know I'm not the only movie-goer who longs to see a summer line-up of original blockbusters. New heroes and villains, new concepts. Not a polished TV show that was barely good enough to keep an audience entertained for 30 minutes, let alone an hour and thirty minutes.

Today's Hollywood seems to look past thorough scripts and instead looks at statistics to see which Movies made the money in the past. They've even tried to make spin-offs of the blockbusters. Look at what a disaster Catwoman was a few years ago. There is a prime example of over-using special effects. The only thing Halle Berry actually did to make that movie was walk, it seems. Everything else was added in later. Badly, I might add. Don't even get me started on Daredevil's failed spin-off Elektra. Yikes.

The moral of this article is, if your as fed up with the proceeding as I am, let Hollywood know enough is enough. Before we shell out $8 for a movie ticket, we want to see that some work went into writing a decent script, not just someone assuming we'll shell out the dough to see X-MEN for the third time even if they just stand there shooting beams from their eyes and sprouting claws. We as movie-goers demand QUALITY, Hollywood!

Hello. I'm James 'Jimmy' Cloward and I'm a freelance writer who lives in Rolla, Missouri. I am married to a wonderful woman named Kara and have a beautiful daughter named Kadence. I first gained an interest in Movies and popular culture when I managed a major video store. I can still tell you where to find Total Recall on the shelf years later...sadly that's no joke. I have been writing on and off for numerous years now, seeing as how I'm 23 now, I'd say it's been a good six years or so, give or take. That's right, seasoned professional here. I am an author with many interests. I have written articles ranging from weird news stories and sports to The AVR15 Telescope 90-Day Warranty Manual. It doesn't get much more freelance than that! I hope you enjoy my work and I appreciate any support you'd like to toss my way, be it monetary or otherwise. Just kidding. No, I'm not.

I Claudius (DVD) Review

Think history is boring? Think again! I Claudius is proof that an educational film can also be one of the most popular and entertaining series ever produced. A 1976 mini-series, starring many of the best known theatrical performers of its day, I Claudius is one of, if not the, greatest productions chronicling the history of the Roman Empire. Covering the period from the later years of Augustus's rule as the first emperor of Rome to the death of Emperor Claudius, I Claudius takes a look at the social and political underpinnings and developments of the Roman Empire through the eyes of Claudius, an often overlooked member of the emperor's family. An epic in the true sense of the word, I Claudius should be on every film buff's viewing list

A young male connected to the family line of Emperor Augustus, Claudius suffers from a strange limp and an odd stutter which make him appear to be a simple-minded youth. But Claudius maintains a keen intellect, and he observes the even ts around him with meticulous precision. As the end of Augustus's long reign as emperor nears its end, the ruler is in desperate search of an heir. But what he doesn't know is that his wife Livia is determined to see her son from a previous marriage, Tiberius, ascend to the throne. As such, Livia will stop at nothing to murder and ruin those who stand in the way - such as far more noble and deserving heir Germanicus. Through drowning, poisoning, and less subtle means, she insures Tiberius becomes the next in the line of succession

Meanwhile, Claudius observes from the shadows as the ambitious Sejanus (Patrick Stewart) conspires to obtain the throne and the infamous Caligula rises to power. When his relative is murdered because of his terrible reign of insanity, Claudius is thrust upon the throne, and he attempts to rule with a firm hand of justice and restore the republic to its rightful place of power

Wrought with suspense, the I Claudius DVD series will make it s viewers question how any human survived the era known as the ancient Roman Empire. The murders, double-crossings, and various affairs seem to be drawn from a fictional paperback found on drugstore shelves - not in the pages of a history book. But I Claudius stays true to the written account of Roman Emperor Claudius who wrote his memoirs during the few years of his reign as the supreme leader of the greatest empire ever to exist on Earth. The result is a story more intriguing than any book or film since produced

With superb theatrical performances by the entire cast (including Patrick Stewart as Sejanus), I Claudius is an engrossing storyline about the true-to-life people and events that shaped the history of ancient Rome. Like the popular prime-time soap opera Dallas, viewers are drawn to the intrigue surrounding the various characters without even realizing they're learning history in the process! Given its historical accuracy, brilliant dialogue, and ingenious per formances, I Claudius ranks as a definite must-see series of films. In fact, one of the top five best of all time

Steve Irwin "Croc Hunter" His Untimely Death

The entertainment and zoological industry has lost a true inspiration to us all today. Steve Irwin, the infamous Crocodile Hunter was Killed while filming a new documentary at sea about dangerous underwater creatures, by a StingRay attack at the age of 44.

Steve Irwin has served as an icon the likes of Jack Hanna and Jacques Cousteau, and was known for his passion and enthusiasm for wildlife, in particular Crocodiles.

He gained international stardom as the Croc Hunter with his documentaries and series on wildlife, which frequently aired on the Discovery Channel, and other animal and wildlife networks. He also owned a zoo of his own in Australia, where he met his wife Terri, also a passionate wildlife officianado.

Steve came dangerously close to being seriously wounded and even Killed many times before by Crocodiles, his most frequently documented and filmed animals. In fact, most people were surprised to hear he was actually Killed by a StingRay wound, which kills very few people.

So far, conjecture is that the StingRay's serrated tail actually struck up and through his ribcage, puncturing his heart, and that in fact is what caused his untimely Death.

Steve Irwin leaves behind a wife, Terri, and two young children, aged 8 and 3, a boy and girl. His most famous television show Crocodile Hunter was picked up by the Discovery Channel in 1992, and instantly made him a celebrity.

People loved his charm an d his fearlessness, and really identified with his offbeat personality and his obvious passion for Crocodiles and other wildlife.

He fell under public scrutiny though when, a few years back, he actually fed one of his alligators on camera with his then infant son in his arms. But he quickly regained the public's admiration, admitting he probably shouldn't have done that.

Steve has served as a great entertainer, and friend to animals as well as a great animal educator to children and adults alike, and he will be sorely missed.

X Factor Final Five Betting Preview

Out of 75,000 auditionees only five remain and are just a few short weeks from winning the biggest talent competition in the UK and securing a life changing record contract. After simultaneously laughing and cringing at some of the truly awful auditions and whittling down some of the finalists only there to make up the numbers, the competition is starting to get serious.

If you are not familiar with the X-Factor, the premise is simple. Each week all the contestants perform a song live with the television audience voting for who they want to keep in the competition. The two singers with the lowest number of votes have to perform their song again before the judges decide which one lives to fight another day and which one has to go home and back to the day job.

The main hotbed of talent this year has come in the Over 25s category, with three of the four original singers making up the final five contestants, proving that the great British public are not just intere sted in teenage pretty boys who struggle to hold a note. It would have been all four if judge Louis Walsh hadn't cruelly voted to send home the talented Maria Lawson in favour of the dire Conway Sisters who also hail from his native Ireland.

The viewers vote is not the only way you can get involved as there are also plenty of Betting opportunities to get stuck into. Here is a look at the final five contestants and predictions on who ultimately has that X Factor.

Shayne Ward
Odds: 10/11

The only remaining contestant from the 16-24 category. Shayne has been the bookmaker's favourite and hotly tipped by the media to win the competition since his confirmation as one of 12 finalists. However, it's not alw ays that simple. Last year's rocker-by-numbers Tabby was favourite all the way until he eventually finished third and has since disappeared without trace.

Shayne is a sort of poor man's Justin Timberlake. His fondness for hitting the high notes during live performances and his shuffling across the stage is wearing a bit thin. He peaked too early and his rendition of Daniel Bedingfield's If You're Not The One on October 22 has not being matched since.

Whether or not he is as good as some of the other finalists makes no difference as he has that all important teen appeal. It has been suggested in the press that the singer, 21, may have a record deal lined up in any case regardless of whether he wins the competition or not.

Andy Abraham
Odds: 9/4

The show's underdog and the contestant with the most romantic tale of the X Fact or to date. Andy works as a dustman in order to support his family and has only been singing on the local pub and club circuit for the last few years.

He is arguably the most talented singer left in the competition and has wowed audiences with his smooth and soulful voice with perfect renditions of The Greatest Love of All, Unforgettable and Me and Mrs Jones.

If this had been last year then Andy would win the competition hands down, but two words are likely to prevent him succeeding this time around Steve Brookstein. Last year, with a similar heart-warming story to tell, Brookstein revealed he had been trying unsuccessfully to crack the business for years and the X Factor was realistically his last chance of making it as a professional singer.

He beat novelty operatic quartet G4 to win the competition and had a hit record but has since sunk into obscurity. X Factor supremo Simon Cowell is keen to avoid a repeat of last time which will surely scupper Andy's chances of success. Which is a shame.

Journey South
Odds: 3/1

In what was a very weak Groups category, Journey South are the only performers with any real substance. The two brothers from Middlesbrough gave up their day jobs five years ago to make the journey south (geddit?) to London in a bid to find wealth, fame and glory.

Brothers Carl and Andy have been the steady eddies of the competition so far, putting in solid performances of Desperado, Livin' On A Prayer and Angels among others, proving week in, week out, they are genuinely good live singers.

The duo have a cross-generational appeal which puts them in a stronger position overall than say, Shayne or Andy, and this could be the edge they need to win the competition outright.

Brenda Edwards
Odds: 11/2

The only woman left in the competition after Simon Cowell voted out his own act, The Conway Sisters, on November 26. Brenda has grown in popularity as the weeks have progressed and has proved there is more to her than performing motown hits with a sparkling rendition of weepy classic I Will Always Love You.

There's not a lot to say about Brenda. Yes, she has talent, but does she have that X Factor that would elevate her from being a good singer to a best selling recording artist?

Simon Cowell is not entirely convinced and while he acknowledges her vocal ability, doubts she could sell a million records and I tend to agree.

Chico Slimani
Odds: 25/1

With every mass talent search, the inevitable novelty act surfaces. However, Chico has taken this to an entirely new level and his 15 minutes of fame looks set to last a lot longer.

The former goat herder, bodybuilder, hairdresser and goodness knows what else has scraped his way into the final five and has even performed his own instantly forgettable single It's Chico Time, out of tune, naturally, which is bound to be inflicted onto the buying public in time for Christmas.

The joke became unfunny weeks ago, so why does mentor Sharon Osbourne persist with the wafer thin argument that he's a great entertainer? Surely his appeal is only appreciated by 50-something women who shriek manically from their front seat at a Chippendale's show making it clear they can supply their own baby oil? Oh.

The rank outsider to win the competition, Chico's time on the X Factor is drawing to a close, although a lucrative career as a professional Reality TV personality awaits. Good grief.

Summary

Shayne does not represent good value to win the competition at Odds on, especially if a recording contract is already a done deal. With every glittering performance Andy makes, the name of Steve Brookstein must be echoing in the judges minds while I don't believe Brenda and certainly not Chico have what it takes to win. That just leaves Journey South, the talented duo from Middlesbrough, who could well become Simon Cowell's second winning act in as many series of the X Factor and at a good price too.

Acting Have You Got What it Takes?

Acting is a big industry. There are Actors everywhere from the theatre to films, from TV to radio, and even on the street in the form of mime. Yet Acting is not easy in fact, like playing music, it is almost impossible to master.

To be a good actor, you have to be able to get inside a Character and literally live as them to convince your audience, and, for a moment, even yourself, that the Character is who you are. Given that all you will probably have to work with is a few written words, perhaps costumes and a set, and your imagination, its a difficult undertaking.

The range of skills that an actor must have to be effective is very wide. You need to have a mastery of your body for movement that can include fighting, dancing, or evocative expressions. Your voice, too, must be clear enough to be understood from a distance, and you might also need some talent in singing or putting on accents. The most difficult aspect by far, though, is the emotional one, as you must be able to assume different emotions at will crying on demand, for example, or being able to give an effective illusion of happiness or excitement.

One of the most widely-used means of portraying realistic emotions is Stanislavskis theory of method Acting, which you would do well to study if you wish to become an actor. Basically, the idea is that when you are Acting, you think of a time when you felt the emotion you wish to portray. For example, if your Character is sad over the death of their mother, you might think of the time when you were small and your dog died, and so start crying. Theres more to it than that, but thats the basic theory, and it can give a very convincing performance when done correctly.
