Austin Powers (Movie Review)

The brainchild of former Saturday Night Live cast member Mike Myers (Wayne's World, Wayne's World 2), Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery burst onto the Hollywood landscape in 1997 and made a beeline for the cult classic Hall of Fame. A parody/satire of the popular James Bond films of the past several decades, Austin Powers gave birth to a number of quirky and famous characters such as Austin himself, Dr. Evil, Scott Evil, and (later) Mini-Me. Sporting some of the most outrageous antics and bathroom humor in the history of film, Austin Powers successfully utilizes its play on the James Bond series (because it so parallels the films) to create a memorable Movie that will keep you laughing for two hours plus

Mike Myers plays the role of Austin Powers - international man of mystery. Frozen in a c ryogenic chamber since the 1960s, Austin is thawed out in the 1990s in order to take on his arch-nemesis Dr. Evil (who has also been frozen during that time period). A free-love advocate, Austin makes an immediate play for his new partner Vanessa Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley), daughter of his former spy partner Mrs. Kensington (Mimi Rogers).

Meanwhile, Dr. Evil collaborates with his entourage which consists of Number Two (Robert Wagner), Frau Farbissina (Mindy Sterling), and others. He develops a plan to steal a nuclear weapon and hold the world hostage for one million dollars! No. Make that one trillion dollars!!! To carry out his task, Dr. Evil must not only face down Austin Powers and his beautiful partner, but he's forced to grapple with the common-sense, quasi-evil tendencies of his son Scott Evil (Seth Green) with whom he's constantly fighting. Can Austin Powers save the world? Or will Dr. Evil succeed in holding the world hostage?

The success of Austin Pow ers is wholly attributable to the unique comic mind of Mike Myers who not only starred in the leading roles, but who also wrote the screenplay. Myers' portrayal of Dr. Evil steals the show with his evil laugh, diabolical grin, and propensity for all things evil (such as evil petting zoos). His soliloquy while receiving family counseling with Scott ranks as not only one of the best scenes in the film, but among the best scenes from any comedy film ever made. Elizabeth Hurley also turns in a good performance as Austin's partner Vanessa (doing a far better acting job than the verbally-challenged Heather Graham who always seemed to be reading from cue-cards in the Austin Powers sequel).

Meanwhile, Will Ferrell (of SNL and Elf fame) makes a notable appearance as Dr. Evil's henchman, Mustafa. His is a recurring character in later films. Overall, Austin Powers is one of the funniest films you'll ever see. Unless outrageous comedy is simply not your cup of tea, I can't think o f any reason not to recommend this film. Although the sequels are hilarious in their own right, the original is the best (as is often the case), and that's why Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery is a definite must-see film

Friends (Season 2) DVD Review

Along with Seinfeld and Frasier, Friends dominated the must-see TV of the 1990's. Winner of innumerable television awards, the show features the lives of six friends in their late-twenties/early-thirties living in New York City - Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), and Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry). The six friends spend the majority of their time in a coffee house named Central Perk or in either Monica's apartment or Joey and Chandler's apartment.

The Friends (Season 2) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere which begins with Rachel anxiously waiting for Ross at the airport so she can tell him about her feelings. But when Ross exits the plane with his new girlfriend Julie (Lauren Tom) on his arm, Rachel struggles with what she should do. The first several episodes of the season are dominated by this storyline until ( in episode #31) a drunken Rachel phones Ross and leaves a message on his answering machine revealing the truth. Forced to decide between Julie and Rachel, Ross constructs a list of pros and cons (episode #32) that Rachel inevitably finds. The incident threatens to destroy their relationship before they finally come together. Meanwhile, Joey lands a part on Days Of Our Lives as Dr. Drake Ramoray, but seals his own fate when his hubris steps on the toes of the show's writers

Top Chef: Review

The Season Two premiere of Top Chef airs on Wednesday, October 18 at 11:00 P.M. on Bravo, immediately following the finale of the third season of Project Runway. Top Chef will later move to its permanent 10:00 PM time slot on Wednesday, October 25, 2006.

Top Chef debuted in March of 2006 as a competitive culinary reality television program, and was met with critical and ratings success. The show earned the title of the highest rated food show on cable among Adults 18-49 and 25-54. Katie Lee Joel, the wife of famed musician Billy Joel, served as the host of the first season, but will not be returning for Season Two. She has been replaced by Actress and Award-wining writer Padma Lakshmi, and famed chef Tom Colicchio returns once again to serve as Head Chef, mentor and judge. Gail Simmons of Food and Wine magazine returns as a regular judge. There has not been a reason given for Katie Joels absence during Season Two.

Bravo will be introducing Top Chefs viewing aud ience to fifteen of the countrys most impressive rising culinary professionals, all who wish to claim the title of Top Chef won last season by Harold Dieterle. Dieterle has made effective use of his win on the reality program, and is now opening his Manhattan restaurant, Perilla, sometime in late 2006, early 2007.

New host Lakshmi, known as the first Indian supermodel, will be introducing the challenges to the contestants and also sitting at the judges table each week. Lakshmi has culinary credentials in the world of cookbooks, and is currently completing her second cookbook for Miramax Books. She also has hosting experience, serving as the lead role on Padmas Passport on The Food Network and also on the documentary series Planet Food for the Discovery Channel.

Tom Colicchio will be guiding the judges through the cooking and service challenges, offering advice and critiques to the contestants. Each episode will also feature a guest judge, all well known figures i n the food industry. The new season of Top Chef takes place in the city of Los Angeles, and the contestants will be serving up cuisine in some of the citys finest restaurants. As with most competitive reality shows, one contestant will be eliminated each week based upon his or her cooking and service skills (lack thereof) and one will be declared the winner. The finalists will face off in a grand finale and the winning chef will receive 100,000 in seed money to start their culinary career, be featured in Food and Wine magazine and appear at the Food and Wine Class in Aspen in 2007.

The range of ages for this seasons top chef hopefuls is 23-46, and hail from the states of NJ, CA, FL and NY, among others.

Reality TV or Entertainment TV You Decide

The truly educated man is that rare individual who can separate reality from illusion. - Author Unknown

Reality TV Shows.

Are they reality or just Entertainment? Are they good for society? Do reality shows enhance culture? Are they a waste of time?

Let's clear up one thing first. Look up reality in the dictionary. It says, Reality is the quality or state of being actual or true.

Now think about the last time you had your picture taken or were video-taped. You knew the cameras were on and you acted just like you always do, didn't you?

Right!

You didn't scratch your backside or pick your nose. You smiled. You became someone other than your real self. I know, I know, sometimes you want to scratch more and pick more because you want to be gross or funny.

Bottom line is, you acted as you thought you were supposed to act. Do you still think any situation shown on a reality TV show is authentic? I vote NO!

Now look up Entertainment and you'll learn that, Entertainment is something that amuses, pleases, or diverts.

For most of us, this is why we watch a reality TV show. We get to see people acting like people. We laugh when they do stupid things. We cry with them when something bad happens. We shake our heads when they act like fools. Reality TV diverts our attention from our own lives and the things that happen around us. That can be either good or bad. Sometimes it's okay to escape from the problems, fears, and pressures of life for a while.

So in that sense, Reality TV is good for society as long as we remember it's just a simulation of reality. A slice of life portrayed by people acting as they are expected to act. Sequences and scenes are selected by producers, directors, and editors to create the reality defined by the show's premise. The actual reality is, it's an Entertainment show that is designed to deliver a certain audience to a certain advertiser. You get Entertainment they get potential customers.

Can a reality TV show enhance ou r culture?

I believe it can. If we watch the characters of the various reality shows closely we can learn more about ourselves and our society. We get to see the entire range of human interactions and emotions. Greed, lust, love, selfishness, courage, fear, and more, it's all there. We can discover the things we value. We get to see people relating to people. We can learn what makes relationships stronger, and what tears people apart.

When we stay more than semi-conscious as we watch a reality TV or any TV show for that matter, we might learn something. Even if it's only that people do dumb things. Watch with your awareness intact. Reality TV shows are only simulations of life. Just keep telling yourself, It's not real, it's not real.....

Now if you use a reality show or any TV show to escape from your life and it's issues, then it is a waste of time. Stop living in and through someone's contorted and distorted created reality. Your solutions are in you n ot that plastic and glass box.

So those are my thoughts on the questions asked earlier. Here's one final suggestion I offer to you.

Turn off the TV. Get out there and experience the reality show called Your Life. You will be amazed at how interesting and entertaining it can be.

The King Of Queens (Season 4) DVD Review

A spin-off of the popular TV series Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens first hit the airwaves in the Fall of 1998. The show follows the life of Doug Heffernan (played by comedian Kevin James), a package delivery man for IPS (far different from UPS for you litigious-minded readers out there), and the show utilizes much of the same marital and relationship humor found in Ray Romano's blockbuster sitcom. With seven successful seasons under its belt, and even more yet to come, King of Queens is a hilarious comedy series well worth one's time and attention

King of Queens revolves around the life of Doug Heffernan, a hard-working, sports-loving parcel delivery man living in Queens, New York. In his thirties, and married to a lovely woman named Carrie (Leah Remini - who played Carla's daughter on the hit show Cheers), Doug spends most of his non-working hours basking in the glow of his state-of-the-art 70-inch TV with two buddies who share his fanatical love of sports, Spence (Patton Oswalt) and Deacon (Victor Williams). But Doug's personal paradise suffers a devastating blow when Carrie's widowed father Arthur (Jerry Stiller of Seinfeld fame) moves in with the couple. Doug's TV fantasy room is converted into an in-law suite, and after several failed relocation attempts, the TV is pushed into the garage Now Doug and Carrie must learn to share their palace with an eccentric, and oftentimes annoying, father/father-in-law with a penchant for messing up the couple's well-grounded routine

The King of Queens (Season 4) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere Walk, Man in which Doug and Carrie decide they want to try to get pregnant once again (following Carrie's miscarriage several months earlier), but the problem is that Arthur is sleeping all day and then wants to spend all night hanging out with Doug and Carrie. To get some alone time, the two concoct a story and hire a stunning dog walker who pretends to be interested in Arthur Other episodes from Season 4 include Friender Bender in which Doug and Carrie run into the back of Deacon and Kelly's car and the incident drives a wedge between the couples' friendship, and Hero Worship in which Doug contemplates following a lifelong dream to open his own sandwich shop

Why Acting Class is Crucial in Your Development as an Actor!

Do I really need to go to acting class; my friends think Im a natural performer? Isnt acting all about knowing lines anyway?

If only acting where all about knowing lines. If it where that simple everyone would be an actor. Acting requires skill and discipline on many levels and to start to learn about these skills and disciplines acting class is the PERFECT place.

An acting class is not like any other class, history or English or pottery. There is no formula or textbook regurgitation to passing an acting class.

Acting class is very different; really it is the study of YOU! Of the Self!

Great acting comes from a place of knowing. Knowing your truth, knowing how to relate, knowing how to connect and communicate.

Acting class is the place where you go to KNOW more about YOU!

The way to learn more about your Self is to put yourself out there. Try a love scene. How do you feel? What happens when I allow myself to be funny or sad? How does it feel? Are my instincts tuned? How do people react? What can I do to go deeper?

An acting class should be a safe environment where you can learn to express yourself. All of you. And even if your efforts flop this is the perfect environment because it hasnt cost you anything in terms of losing a job or making the wrong impression with the people that count.

Find an acting class or acting teacher that is supportive and encouraging, one that is constructive and objective not critical.

Acting class, first and foremost should be FUN but also challenging! You want it to be a place where you are continuously discovering, going deeper, and pushing your comfort zone.

Use your acting class to try everything. Dont shy away from your impulses, urges, and ideas, embrace them. This is how you will grow as an actor.

This is the place where you can really screw up, fall flat on your face, and it doesnt matter. This is the place to learn to push the boundaries, t o discover who you are and how you work as an actor.

Also I find that when you are continuously working on your craft in such an environment youre in a state ready to work, you have greater confidence in your ability. Youre prepared to nail that role!

So go out there, take an acting class and:

Express yourself

Learn the craft, Gather the tools

Find your Technique

Make mistakes

Learn the Lingo

Work with other like-minded people

Meet people and start a theatre group

See if your have what it takes

Practice, Practice, Practice

Add to your resume

Free yourself up

And most importantly;

Have fun!

La Femme Nikita (DVD) Review

Nominated for 18 Gemini Awards (which honor the English language achievements of Canadian television), La Femme Nikita established itself as a stalwart on the USA Network in the late-1990s. Based on the 1990 motion picture of the same name, La Femme Nikita changed its cast, but not its edgy characters and exciting underworld setting. A forerunner to the successful hit series Alias, the show features all the intrigue of its successor coupled with the fast-paced action of 24. An hour-long action/adventure drama series, La Femme Nikita premiered on the first day of 1997 and quickly built a loyal fan base that followed the series for five stellar seasons before its premature cancellation in Spring 2001

La Femme Nikita follows the life of Nikita (Peta Wilson), a woman wrongfully convicted of a brutal murder. Sentenced to life in prison, a top-secret government agency known only as Section One sets its sights on the woman it believes to be a ruthless killer. Faking Nikita' s suicide, they usher her out of prison to train and program her into a willing and obedient assassin. But the conspirators at Section One didn't bank on Nikita's innocence. Now, they're stuck with a bloodthirsty felon who's not as bloodthirsty as they thought. The La Femme Nikita DVD features a number of exciting epis odes including the series premiere Nikita in which Nikita, a lone girl living on the streets, is wrongfully convicted of a murder she did not commit. When the government fakes her prison cell suicide, Nikita awakes in the care of Section One, a super secret government entity with the goal of turning Nikita into an anti-terrorist assassin. The Rat Pack

I cannot expect the truth about the Rat Pack and JFK to ever become known. There are lots of first hand accounts that detail Peter Lawfords involvement with JFK in doing cocaine and all sorts of women. The truth is far more horrific than the dalliances with 14-year old sex slaves in Florida who I met years later when she was a dedicated lesbian. It goes beyond the likes of Satanic leader Anton LaVey or the people above him who were High Priestesses in a hierarchy that includes the Dragons of HRH Nicholas de Vere. One of those High Priestesses told the spies she had working on me that I was a Machiavellian Prince sent to overturn her Temple. I did not discover this until a year had passed after I left my short-term membership and research effort in her coven during 1994. This High Priestess had been the last consort for Gary Cooper and she had been sexually active or a leader in the Rat Pack sex rituals in both Vegas and LA.

I was thunderstruck when I heard I was a Ma chiavellian Prince. I had no idea! But as time passes I can see she was right about my purpose to overturn her Temple. My books on history and our governing forces or people have certainly got the potential to do just that if people ever get around to reading all ninety or so of them.

When t comes to media manipulation there was none better than the white-wash of the singer or crooner of tunes like White Christmas. Bing Crosby enjoyed his sex and these rituals as much as Dean Martin. The drugs they all took lead many of them to a wretched end. Here is a little part of my discourse with my fellow researcher on this particular book.

Flynn and Hubbard were sexually involved in rituals with each other. She spoke well of Forrest Tucker having a large penis to rival Errol Flynn who I believe J. Edgar Hoover had the hots for as well. I presume the same is true with Sammy Davis and all the rest of the Rat Pack she was involved with.

I suppose a reader will have to look up my articles like They Eat Your Brains, The Star-Fire Ceremony (which is displayed on a Dragon website of an official nature); and do a lot of research into things like Aleister Crowley and the Hermetic Order of the Golden dawn which was the Rothschild personal coven before they could possibly have a clue as to what I am rambling about at this juncture. If the reader chooses to do this I suggest they put Paris-working into their browser alongside Crowleys name.

The Big Middle Finger to Scientology

Take that Isaac Hayes, you got owned by 2 of the most brilliant men in Comedy. The new season of South Park just got done airing, it was the biggest middle finger to Scientology. If you do not know by now, you're slow but i'll fill you in. Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef, quit South Park about a week ago because of some religious issues (Trapped in The Closet Episode). Anyway back to the new season (Episode 1001 The Return of Chef). This episode was well crafted and made, I read that it took matt and trey only a few days to make this and they decided to air it before the other scheduled episodes.

The show consisted of Chef returning back to South Park after joining what the boys like to refer to as the fruity club. This club brainwashed Chef into being a Child Molestor. Now when Chef return ed he sounded choppy and unfinished as if they were using old audio clips from past episodes. The boys then slowly find out something is truly wrong with Chef and try to make him normal again. So they take him to a strip joint. Here he is turned straight by this severely obese black women. After this, Chef is quickly tranquilized and taken back to the Fruity club meeting place. Where they try and convert him back to a Child Molester. To sum it up the kids break in rescue him. BUT! On their way out they cross a bridge and the fruity club leader calls Chef and tells him to come back, Chef then changes back his mind and makes his way back over the bridge when all the sudden lightning strikes the bridge causing Chef to smash down several rocks get shot 3 times and torn to peices by a mountain lion and a bear, then craps himself, only to be killed off the most gruesome and disgusting way. Chef was killed off? Not exactly at the end of the show he was then brought back as CHEF VAD ER!!!

The definition of Scientology: This is an applied religious philosophy that contains workable answers to the problems people face in their lives. The subject matter of Scientology is all life. It contains practical means through which predictable improvement can be obtained in any area to which it is applied.

In the episode no one really had any answers to what was happening in their lives which is the opposite of Scientology. Scientology gets the middle finger. All in all you screw with Matt Stone & Trey Parker, you get what's coming to you!

Movies Watch What You Want When You Want

Movies are a tremendous source of Entertainment for most people. The reason? Its probably because even people who have little in common can find a movie to enjoy together.

The moviemakers apparently understood the need to create films that appeal to a wide audience. Otherwise, the good guy wouldnt take time out in his pursuit of the bad guys to kiss the girl. The girl wouldnt get herself in a wreck that required a heroic rescue before she got her guy. And perhaps the most obvious example of all the cartoons wouldn't have such great humor that appeals to the adults almost as much as the children.

Technology has played an important role in broadening the appeal of most Movies to encompass a wider audience. Consider the Movies of a half-century ago. There were spacemen on Earth an d earthlings in space, but the scenes were usually very plain and the almost everything was left to the imagination of the view. Today, the vistas are bigger than life, futuristic scenes are more incredible than the average imagination could have conjured on its own and the stunts are unbelievable because they are humanly impossible.

But even when were watching a stunt that cant possibly have happened in real life, were awed and amazed and cant wait to see it again. And again. And thats the beauty of the movie experience today. Not only are there thousands upon thousands of Movies to watch, many are available to buy, rent or Download onto your PC. You can watch them as often as you want, shelve them for awhile and watch them again.

While technology is playing an important role in the movie-making process, its also important for movie watching. The fact that many Movies are now digital files on DVD allows moviemakers to apply a myriad of special features into the movie file itself. Surround sound is one of those special features and if you have a home theater set up with surround sound, youll be able to hear the special effects just like you do at a commercial theater. Ever wonder how it is that a door squeaks to your right, while a woman screams to your left? The answer is surround sound technology and a DVD has ample space to store those kinds of programming features.

You and your spouse will probably never agree on every single movie. But with the many movie titles available for you to rent or own either on DVD or to Download to your computer, its likely that youll find something that you both want to watch tonight. And maybe even something that you both want to watch again. And again.

BBC and Its Importance Today

The case for statutory regulation of press standards is built on the premise that properly devised measures designed to promote press freedom and high standards in the press do not constitute pre-publication censorship. Allowing the public to have redressed after publication allows the publisher to decide in advance whether the material should be published, therefore it does not constitute censorship. Nonetheless the proprietors and some editors will doubtless produce this red herring yet again during this process, and the Committee would be well advised to press home a strong set of criticisms on this issue.

The BBC is one part of public service Broadcasting in the UK. For the BBC to thrive it must operate on a level playing field. By creating one sector that is increasingly under-regul ated (satellite, digital, commercial radio), one that is weakly regulated (ITV) and another with tighter public service requirements (BBC, S4C and C4), and the government has created huge problems. The logic of the current situation is to ultimately diminish the relative weight of public service obligations across the whole sector. This is not a technically driven situation. There is no technical reason why the direction of recent policy has been to foster more commercial services at the expense of public service provision. Given that, the solution resides in looking at the overall policy framework within which UK Broadcasting operates. This would mean rolling out public service obligations across the sector, in exchange, perhaps for tax or regulatory concessions. Unless this is done, and unless the BBC is set on a level playing field with its competitors, it will, like public service Broadcasting in the USA, wither on the vine. Not immediate death, but death by a thousand minor policy instruments. The Campaign for Press Broadcasting Freedom therefore considers that the current framework governing Broadcasting in the UK should be changed to place strong public service obligations on all major providers, so as to ensure the fut ure of high quality, independent Broadcasting and related services

There should be positive regulation of the media and communications. The UK's Communications Bill appears to serve sectional commercial interests. The Communications Bill states that OFCOM is meant primarily to promote economic competition in the media. It is designed to allow as much self- regulation by the media as possible. Why? Because positive regulation costs the industry money! OFCOM is to be run by a tiny Board, which has been appointed rather than nominated by public bodies. It therefore represents no one except the interests of those people who have been appointed to it. . There is less representation for Wales and Scotland on OFCOM than there was on the former regulators.

The Hutton Inquiry and its aftermat h revealed fundamental weaknesses in the Corporation's governance. Most vitally it showed the extent to which the system of appointing governors does not provide the best way of creating a robust body, willing and able to resist direct government pressures. It also highlighted the extent to which the BBC Board of Governors remains too dependent on BBC managers for its understanding of issues relating to the governance of the Corporation.

Movie Review: Audition

Last night I saw Audition, a Japanese horror/drama film about a widower who decides he is ready to remarry several years after the death of his wife. He confides in his Movie director friend who suggests that they set up a fake Audition to find him the woman he is looking for. He accepts and eventually falls hard for this seemingly shy, mysterious girl. It's your typical romantic story until you find out that the girl is actually a twisted, sadistic killer.

Up to that point, the film moves along slowly. Eventually it builds up to a series of climaxes that alternate between nightmare and reality. The beauty of the film lies in the fluidity of its constrasting images. To create a strong effect, the images are highly saturated with different colors depending on the mood of the scenes. One moment, you've got these peaceful, quiet moments that make you feel serene. And before you know it, you're violently shaken by some of most intense and shocking scenes you've ever seen . Here, the director stops at nothing. The torture scenes in this film have got to be the most graphic and gruesome ever put on film. It is not for the faint-hearted; even those who think are strong may not take it easily -as I learned all too well.

When the last torture scene unfolded, I sat on the edge of my bed with my hand frozen near the remote control stop button. Part of me badly wanted to stop the film and end this while the other part of me wanted to keep witnessing the horrific scenes. It was all so eerie, so strange. The victim's physical suffering felt like my psychological suffering. I felt as though it might have been my own nightmare. As the helpless man kept whispering 'stop it,' I couldn't help but wish for her to stop, too. But the demented killer would keep going in her evil, diabolical way, saying deeper, deeper, deeper with her soft, almost sweet-sounding laughing voice as she pushed the thick needles in deeper and deeper inside the poor man's fles h. Just hearing her little voice was enough to scare the hell out of you. She has the voice of angel, but she acts like she's the devil incarnate. Deeper, deeper, deeper is now a sentence I will no longer be taking lightly.

I had seen a lot of shocking films before, but this one shook me harder than ever. Next to it, the other well-known Japanese horror film Ringu is a children's playground. At the end of Audition, you almost feel psychologically traumatized and emotionally spent, but you also know you've seen horror at its best. Do consider yourself warned if you're planning to see it one day.

The Dukes Of Hazzard (Season 4) DVD Review

In the late 70's and early 80's, television viewers fell in love with The Dukes Of Hazzard, a weekly foray into the fictional setting of Hazzard County, Georgia. Cousins Bo and Luke Duke (John Schneider and Tom Wopat) spent each episode trying to do good, while the loveable Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) concocted various schemes for making money and having the Duke boys, who always foiled his plans, thrown in jail for violating their probation (the result of a deal with the federal government to end the centuries-old Duke family tradition of bootlegging).

The Dukes Of Hazzard (Season 4) DVD features a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere Mrs. Daisy Hogg in which Jamie Lee Hogg, Bosss polite and un-Hogg-like nephew moves to Hazzard County to open an old mill. Daisy and Jamie Lee fall in love and announce their engagement, much to the chagrin of the Duke and Hogg families. But Daisy doesnt know that Jamie Lee is running a counterfeiting ring out of the mill Other notable episodes include Sadie Hogg Day in which Boss, about to get a visit from the state auditor, rigs a drawing so that Daisy becomes County Treasurer for the day making her legally responsible for the county funds, and Dear Diary in which Roscoes diary, detailing his various crimes with Boss, is left at the Duke farm by mistake. When Jesse tries to return the diary, two crooks steal it and use it to blackmail Boss and Roscoe

Movie Review: Corporate Exposes Bhandarkar's Ignorance

OMKARA MURDERS DOLLY, sits besides her, hums a lyrical ode, and you want Dolly to rise up and console Omkara! So breathtaking and stunning! Understanding Shakespeares plays can be daunting and bringing those characters alive is not childs play. It needs guts and gumption to even think in celluloid terms. But Vishal Bhardwaj did it! Fresh from the success of his earlier Shakespearean adaptation Macbeth aka Maqbool, Vishal has fiddled with fire again. The music-composer turned director has brought the characters of Othello alive with his brilliant adaptation.

So what does he do? He Indianises the characters but in stead of putting those characters in urban or metro locales he chooses rustic and mafia characters of Uttar Pradesh. Othello becomes Omkara (Ajay Devgan); Desdemona is turned into Dolly (Kareena), Iago is Ishwar Langda Tyagi (Saif Ali) and Cassio is Kesu (Vivek Oberoi). Bharadwajs version takes the same players and situations, but sets them in Uttar Pradesh, with a few tweaks here and there to the plot. Othello is a play about love, hate, jealousy, trust, tragedy and misfortune. These things have been played time and again on big screen minus authenticity and with typical Bollywood ishtyle, that made the art of Shakespeare look pedestrian! Yet to dare to bring the 400-year play alive with modern settings and do justice to it is no mean achievement.

There are no changes in the plays structure . Omkara and Dolly are besotted with one another. In the original Othello elopes with the fair Desdemona. Omkara is the mafia lord of UP. His able lieutenant Ishwar Langda is next in waiting. While the lively Kesu is third in rank but to the utter amazement of Langda, Kesu is appointed chief lieutenant to Omkara. And it is from here that the really story begins. The wily and merciless Langda executes a flawless plan. Convinced by his aide Langda that Dolly has been having an affair with his lieutenant Kesu, Omkara murders her. At the sight of a dead Dolly, Langdas wife reveals that Dollys affair was faked; Omkara kills himself.

Unlike other Bollywood adaptations, this film does not mellow the characters. The tragic hero is presented with all grey shades and villains with fair human emotions. Yeah it is the first film where a hero is punned for his colourquite racist for Indian audiences! Vishal has succeeded in giving the film the Indian look without taking anything aw ay from the play. Rustic setting, raunchy music, riveting climax, Omkara is truly head and shoulders above the usual potboilers. The treatment meted is original. The helplessness of Omkara; the innocence of Dolly; the jealousy, ambition and greed of Langda all makes you thing how beautifully Shakespeare has weaved human emotions.

The film belongs to Saif Ali. He has left Ajay Devgan miles behind who looks more of second fiddle than the protagonist to the unsung Khan. Saifs vile manipulations, deep rotted scorn, subtle scheming, manoeuvring yet coming unscathed is treat to watch. Kareena displays her best performance till date. Ajay Devgan, for the most part looks redundant. Vivek is okay and Konkona Sen Sharma is going to win more fans with this performance.

Soap (Season 3) DVD Review

Nominated for 17 Emmys in its short four-year run, Soap premiered in the Fall of 1977 as one of the most controversial shows in American television history (and all before a single episode ever aired). The show was opposed by many groups who thought its subject matter would be too mature for a prime-time audience. But Soap never overstepped its bounds, and the show became an instant smash hit with its brilliant and satirical spoofs of classic daytime programming. Sporting an all-star cast and talented producers, the show spawned successful spin-off Benson in 1979, a series that launched Robert Guillaume's career to a whole new level...

Set in suburban Connecticut, Soap follows the lives of two sisters - Jessica Tate (Katherine Helmond), a wealthy yet dim elitist, and Mary Campbell (Cathryn Damon), a housewife in a more traditional blue-collar atmosphere. But regardless of their social station in life, neither woman manages to escape the scandal and intrigue surroundi ng a typical soap opera family. Jessica's daughter Corrine (Diana Canova) is smitten with a priest, yet they are both having an affair with the same tennis pro. Meanwhile, Jessica and her husband Chester (Robert Mandan) incessantly cheat on one another. As for the other side of the family, Mary's husband Burt (Richard Mulligan) is certifiably insane, her son Danny (Ted Wass) is a mobster, stepson Jodie (Billy Crystal) is an out-of-the-closet homosexual, and all of them are caught up in a family filled with promiscuous infidelities and quite possibly murder! Throw in the insubordinate and sarcastic Tate butler Benson (Guillaume), and Soap holds its own as one of the funniest sitcoms in TV history

The Soap (Season 3) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere in which Burt awakens in the hull of a spaceship. Eunice asks Dutch to strike a deal with the feds, and Benson organizes a posse to rescue Billy from the Sunnies while an alien clone o f Burt takes the real Burt's place Other notable episodes from Season 3 include Episode 52 in which the real Burt and his alien clone finally confront one another, and Episode 69 in which, with a guilty Chester by her bedside, Jessica dies, all while Jodie gives an impassioned courtroom defense of his right to be an openly gay single parent

Five Movies You Think Would Be Really Better Than They Are

Here are five Movies you think would be really better than they are, unfortunately for the Films, the scripts, the direction, and the actors, they are not.

About Schmidt - 1 Star (Terrible)

Jack Nicholson is Warren Schmidt in this Movie, an actuary whose angry, miserable life is interrupted by retirement and the sudden death of his wife when he discovers his life has no real meaning, and he has no real relationships to comfort him. Nicholson (as Schmidt) stays in character in this effort, but the 2 hour 5 minute Movie is really about 2 hours and 3 minutes of being angry, miserable and negative, and then a moment of redemption at the end that comes from a 6-year-old boy in Tanzania he has sponsored.

This does not get my 2-star rating as even average because it is so unredeeming. Just watching this angry, negative, miserable Movie for 2 hours and 3 minutes put me in a foul mood, despite the pathetic try at redemption in the end. Who wants to watch a two-hou r Movie and feel miserable when you are done?

This Film has to be the worst Film I have even seen Jack Nicholson in, and did absolutely nothing to enhance Nicholson's image as one of the great actors of our time. Unfortunately for Nicholson, he gets involved in this Film which lacks a good story line, a good script and good direction (one might say, he struck out).

None of this has any affect whatsoever on Hollywood as Nicholson was tapped for a Best Actor nomination (this is Jack, right?) and Kathy Bates for a Best Actress in a Supporting Role nomination; neither won an Oscar. Small justice for a lousy Film.

The Anchorman 1 Star (Terrible)

Will Ferrell as a self-absorbed nightly news anchor who falls from grace. This Movie is worse than bad, it is terrible beyond belief. There are a couple of laughs in it, but it is the absolute pit to watch.

Farrell will never make it as an actor of note with these kinds of roles. The female lead is Christina Applegate (yes, that ChristinaKelly Bundyof Married With Children), who is now grown and pretty darn attractive in spite of appearing in this awful choice of a Movie.

We will pray that both Ferrell and Applegate get better roles, although it looks like Ferrell is making a career out of stupid, crummy roles. He certainly has more talent than this Movie shows. I would date Applegate, at least once, to see if she had more going for her than just looks; you certainly could not tell by her choice of Movie roles.

Before Sunset 1 Star (Terrible)

Before Sunset is the story of a young couple who reunite 10 years later in Paris after an original fling. There is no story line in this Movie, apparently they forgot to write one. Before Sunset follows the male and female leads walking around Paris and talking until they come back together.

The production in this Movie not really well done (despite being in Paris), and I was not always able to hear the audio. It i s filled with what are supposed to be cute lines that get very tired after awhile. If this was meant to be a Movie about relationships, it failed miserably.

Cocktail 1 Star (Terrible)

An early (1988) Movie with Tom Cruise as an Irish performance bartender in Manhattan involved in booze, broads and beefcake with a smile.

After watching this Movie I tried to determine which was more compelling: this Movie effort or an ant walking across the sidewalk. Unable to determine which, I concluded this Film was the victim of a poor script, terrible acting, lack of an interesting story line, and any meaningful message.

I guess I was looking for more than just mindless entertainment. I would not bother seeing this Film again, unless, of course, you are just sappy about Tom Cruise and cannot get enough of a bad thing.

Corky Romano 1 Star (Terrible)

A light (and I mean very light) comedy with no substance whatsoever, but funny nevertheless. Stars one o f my favorite Saturday Night Live comics, Chris Kattan. It saddens me to see Chris Kattan in a Movie like this after his brilliant sketches of Mango and Monkey Boy on Saturday Night Live.

So many cast members of Saturday Night Live have gone over to Movies, trying to make the big bucks, and have been put into terrible Movies with terrible scripts and terrible results. Christ Kattan is 1,000 times more impressive as a comedian on Saturday Night Live than Corky Romano will ever be.

I have no idea what Peter Falk was doing in this Movie; he must have needed rent money.

I only bring these terrible Movies to your attention so you do not get blindsided once you sit down to enjoy your Movie rental of choice. My forewarning is useless, of course, should you invest in any of these Films.

Movie Review of "Loose Change" 9/11 Conspiracy Theory Must See Scary Stuff!

A Tight Evaluation of Loose Change

You know you if you criticize the President its unpatriotic and theres something wrong with you, you may be a terrorist. Sarcastic words from the famous journalist and 9/11 critic Hunter S. Thompson in an interview from the movie Loose Change. The movie Loose Change by Dylan Avery provides a very strong argument on the whole controversy about the attacks on September 11th, exposing the horrible realties that this country is facing today. This movie gets into the real details and controversies that past films regarding 9/11 did not even touch on. The film seems to use every piece of evidence from several media sources, interviews, and even basic science to help disprove the beliefs that the mainstream media is pumping out to the people; the belief that Osama Bin Laden was behind theses attacks. The film basically implies that the Bush Administration was behind the whole thing. It covers the attacks on WTC, The Pentagon, and Fli ght 93 as well as many other oddities that do not seem to make sense about the whole day and days leading up to the attacks. The movie Loose Change is an important documentary that every American should see, no matter what side or political party they are on, and draw their own conclusions from the evidence provided.

When looking at a documentary such as this, there are some important aspects of it that should be evaluated. One of them is validity. Dylan Avery does a great job at covering his claims with real evidence such as documented quotes from politicians, media coverage that seems to have been lost with the times, media coverage from other agencies all around the world, and even basic physics to prove his point. Avery even backs himSelf up just a little bit more by giving his sources on screen so a one could go and look up this information from old media archives for ones Self and research to prove that this stuff was not made up. Avery has done an great job at making this film a nearly irrefutable piece of art.

When documentaries come out, especially political ones, there is always a great deal of controversy, such as Michael Moores film Fahrenheit 9/11 . This film had the same intentional goal that Loose Change had. The goal of discrediting the mainstream medias approach to the coverage on 9/11. Instead Moores film seemed to mostly make fun of President Bush. Because of this people criticized Moores film as being too bias. This is not the case with Averys film. Avery tends not to push his judgement about all these events on to the audience. Instead, he just simply presents his solid information and then lets the audience come to their own conclusion about these terrorist attacks. There are a surprisingly few number of rebuttals to this film out currently, and those few seem to discredit it without fact. Avery did an excellent job at excluding political bias from the film, and because of that it makes for a very interesting film, no matter what political affiliation.

Quality is another important issue in a documentary; it conveys the purpose of the film a little bit more by giving the audience something pretty and organized to watch and better understand the film. The quality of Loose Change was exceptional. One example of the quality was his use of satellite mapping technology to illustrate what was going on around the world during September 11th and other important days leading up to the attacks. Another quality factor in the movie was the music. The music consists of primarily hip-hop beats that goes perfectly and sets the eerie mood of the film that leaves the audience shaking in there seats, knowing that these are very possible realities. Avery also implemented the use of on-screen captions to highlight certain parts of news articles, websites, and quotes to bring out any evidence that helps with the purpose of the film. The beginning of the film even has a warnin g caption that is an obvious parody of the FBI warning on most films. This caption states that anyone in possession of this film can be detained with out trial for terrorism under the U.S. Patriot Act, and it urges the viewer to make copies and send it to anyone they can before it is too late. The overall quality was really surprising since the makers of this film are not capitalizing on it and are giving away the copyrights to anyone willing to help spread this information to other people.

Even though Loose Change was a great documentary, there are still some things that must be criticized. Not because it is bias or false, but because there are some questions and interesting facts that are left out of the film. One example of this would be when the towers fell. Why was there no media coverage on the other buildings, leased by the same person, that also fell for no apparent reason? And why was there no damage to surrounding buildings owned by different corporati ons that were closer to ground zero than the buildings that fell? These are some important questions that should be answered. Even though these questions were not answered in the film, it is still hard to criticize it since Avery has been updating the film with new facts and re-releasing them as different editions. The only way would be to wait for more editions to come out.

Never the less, the movie still conveyed the meaning that it was going for, and it did it without entirely coming out and saying it. The meaning that The Bush Administration was behind the attacks on September 11th and they had everything to benefit from it. Even if the movie seems to imply something that one would disagree on, or is against. It is still a movie that every American should watch and then draw their own conclusions from it and it is available free on Google Video for public download for everyone to see.

The Top Worst Movies That You Must Watch

Blues Brothers 2000 there never should have been a remake. Once John Belushi died the Blues Brother should have retired. The beginning of the movie, being a John Belushi fan made me almost cry. Elwood gets out of jail and waits for his brother and they have to tell him hes dead, this all had to figured out by the die hard Blues Brother fan, it was unspoken. That was so sad, but the best part of the movie. So the movie goes from strip club, to kid, too overall dramatic scenes, and of course John Goodman taking Belushis spot. Watch this movie to check out all the musical stars hidden in many of the scenes, or get a copy and burn it in Johns honor.

Its Pat: The Movie hell all SNL Movies, A Night at the Roxbury, Coneheads, Superstar, they were Funny on television for a few minutes. But did anyone really thing more then a few minutes was not annoying

Dungeons and Dragons: the Movie. Ok I know its a video game right? So why is Marlon Wayans in it? Then there is a d warf that somewhere appears. They should not have named it Dungeons and Dragons they should have named it idiots doing idiotic things. But again you can not stop watching it just to see the next stupid thing thats going to happen.

He-Man: Masters of the Universe- Being a child of the 80s, I grew up with He-Man. But honestly who thought turning this cartoon into a non animated movie was dumb. The prince valiant haircut does not look good. Then there is this whole jumping through a portal theme of the movie. I never once thought He-Man was in a different dimension. The characters from the movie did not always match up with the cartoon and Skelator much scarier as a cartoon. Nice try but def not something I could watch as a serious 80s fan.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space- Clowns in general is a very scary thought. But giant ones that kill people with cotton candy thats Funny. Apparently a space ship dropped to a town and need to refuel on cotton candy covered humans . It is a very stereotypical movie about kids who get in trouble in town. Make a game into and see who can come up with the most. Here are a few points for you, kids going to make out point and clowns that have big red shoes and noses.

Howard the Duck Lea Thompson stars in this awful movie. It is about a talking duck, do I need say more.

Jaws: The Revenge The Jaws people ran out of ideas on this one. This movie ignores the other Movies, where the shark is killed! The plot consists of a witch doctor possing a shark. The shark actually roars, which I find to be pretty inplasible.

Brady Bunch the Movie- Was it suppose to be making Fun of the original? It was all to stupid for my taste. Plus the incest theme Humor was not Funny and never is.

Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot! See this just for Sly Stallone being in a comedy. We barely understood him in Rocky or Rambo, so putting him in a comedy was great. Then of course his mother being Estelle Getty from The Golden Girls, added to the believeablity. The plot was dumb, the Humor was dimwitted, and overall should of never been made.

'THE TRIANGLE' Takes A Plunge Into Reality

The long awaited and much-touted mini-series, The Triangle, made its debut on the Sci-Fi cable channel recently. As a person who has studied the paranormal for most of his life, I always watch these kinds of fictional entertainment projects based on unexplained events with a slightly more critical eye then the average viewer or sci-fi fan might. Unlike other Sci-Fi projects that attempted to report on or fictionalize various areas of the unexplained, this one is a gem. There are several reasons why I believe that The Triangle is one of the best science fiction projects based on unexplained events I have ever seen.

Beyond the fact that the cast really delivered the goods, those responsible for the project know good science fiction. Rockne S. OBannon is credited with writing the teleplay and as Executive Producer. With projects like Alien Nation, SeaQuest DSV, Amazing Stories and the 1980s incarnation of The Twilight Zone under his belt, OBannon knows how to tell a sto ry well. Dean Devlin is also one of the Executive Producers and is given writing credits. Despite the disaster that was Godzilla, Devlin gave us Star Gate and Independence Day. Craig R. Baxley is Director and is certainly no stranger to the weird having been involved with Left Behind, Rose Red and Kingdom Hospital.

Despite the luminaries that acted in, wrote, produced and directed The Triangle, the most important reason for the success of this mini-series may be its willingness to offer The Philadelphia Experiment as an explanation for all the weird happenings. Its obvious that those responsible for this production did their homework. Paranormal Investigators have been linking people, planes and ships lost or missing in the Bermuda Triangle to the infamous Navy project for many years. Anyone wanting to create a fictional entertainment project about weird events that occur in the area also known as the Devils Triangle would be foolish to ignore the interest people have in the possible Philadelphia Experiment connection.

Unlike other Sci-Fi channel projects based on the unexplained, The Triangle doesnt bother to apologize for whats presented. I was especially impressed with the no-nonsense manner in which the Philadelphia Experiment material was worked into the plot. Anyone who has studied the alleged U.S. Government experimentation with time travel, invisibility and mind control as deeply as I have knows what a hard sell that material is. The Philadelphia Experiment was never just some World War II project to make Navy ships invisible. It was and is an incredibly complicated and diverse program that is able to exist based on the fact of non-existence in the public mind, propped up by over fifty years of disinformation and secrecy.

I have always said that paranormal reality is better then any science fiction ever presented in book, film or other forms. The cases I have investigated involving the unexplained have challenged every thing I believe or have been taught about the world we live in. Im not speaking of ethereal New Age concepts, but actual occurrences which defy you to explain them. That is what I liked about The Triangle. The characters were average people mulling through life until they were suddenly slammed in the face by paranormal events. Whether believers or disbelievers by nature, none of them could deny what they were experiencing.

Most mini-series start off with a bang, then end in the most disappointing way possible. That certainly wasnt true of The Triangle. In the end, the characters involved found themselves in a new and permanently altered reality. For me, it was a more then worthwhile payoff for watching the six hour presentation over three nights. Thats because I not only believe its possible, but have seen evidence that such things have already happened.

As a child growing up on Long Island, I found myself constantly confronted by things I couldnt understand. Sto ries of UFO sightings, odd disappearances, alien abductions and even strange creature sightings were not uncommon in a place less then a one hour drive from New York City. Add to that the weird stories I heard from our mostly ex-military neighbors. Despite government claims that paranormal events were often reported by untrained observers or unstable people, most of those I met with unusual stories to tell were very credible. These included active and retired military pilots, police, firefighters, engineers, scientists and technical writers. Then there was what I experienced myself.

Our home was built in the 1950s on what had been farm property. It was the first house built on our block. It didnt take long for all the houses that were subsequently erected to be purchased. All of the homes except one were occupied by families. That home was across the street and a couple of houses down from us. It was occupied by an elderly couple who liked their privacy and, it was rum ored, had been involved in some sort of scientific research for the U.S. Government. If you were a kid, you knew better then to play in front of their home. They would call your parents, the police or both. Obviously, they were not the most beloved people on the block. However, that became a non-issue one summer morning.

It was the mid-1960s and I was enjoying my summer break from elementary school. Since most people went on vacation during that time, I was left to roam the block and rummage up what friends I could. With stores, a library, park and even a bowling alley close by, I was always looking for someone to venture out with me to those places. Each time I walked pass the house owned by the elderly couple, I admired how well it was kept. Window boxes were filled with carefully chosen flowers, the lawn was manicured to perfection and bird droppings were quickly cleaned off the sidewalk or driveway whenever any dirty bird dared to poop on the property.

As I w alked toward the elderly couples house to visit a friend next store on that particular day, I was frozen in my tracks. The house was gone! I mean it just wasnt there and looked like it never had been. When I mentioned this to my parents, they assumed it was a joke. They had never seen or heard about the couple. When they saw how serious I was, my parents assured me that no house like I described had ever existed in our neighborhood. My friends and their parents said the same thing. In the interest of not being labeled the neighbor nut cake, I dropped the matter. Beyond the fact that a house and its occupants had managed to vanish overnight, what really bothered me was why I was the only person who remembered the structure and the people who lived in it. Then I remembered something.

A few days after the couple had moved in, I was walking past the house when the elderly man called out to me. He asked if I wouldnt mind helping him hang some pictures and do some odd jobs. I ran home to ask my parents for permission to go into the house. They said it would be fine. So I spent most of that afternoon helping the man with various jobs inside and outside the house. I earned five dollars and some good will for my efforts. To my knowledge, I was the only person living in that neighborhood who had ever actually been inside the house. That is the only reason I can think of for possessing the memories of the house and the elderly couple.

I gave up thinking about the incident until I started the seventh grade. My junior high school had a well stocked library. After reading The Time Machine, A Wrinkle in Time and some comments by physicists published in a scholastic magazine, I began to consider the possibility that a natural or deliberate event involving alteration of the space time continuum had occurred. The comments by the physicists in an article about modern science introduced me to the idea of alternative realities and dimensions. While some felt that there were only a few physical dimensions, others saw a universe full of alterative realities that could eventually be accessed if the technology to do so was available.

With that foundation, it wasnt hard to imagine what someone with access to technology of the type described as being used in the Philadelphia Experiment project could do. Playing with time would be as easy as riding a bike; until you fell off. Its always the aftereffects that anyone wanting to play Time God would have to take into consideration. The consequence of messing with the fabric of time and space would be a new and possibly undesirable reality. Thats if you view Time as a line. I believe that people involved in the real Philadelphia Experiment and related projects look at Time as a continuous circle without beginning or end. If you have the right technology, you can jump anywhere into the circle, make subtle changes and still retain the overall stability of the reality in which you live. Your reality would be where you were born in the circle.

The Triangle took a quantum leap (no pun intended) for a major production. It dared to take a plunge in the reality that researchers like myself have lived with for most of their lives. That reality is the fact that we cannot always run to science or some known database of information for answers when it comes to understanding the unexplained. Although a fictional presentation, I was glad to see that those involved with the project had the guts and intelligence to step out from the usual sci-fi mold and give the world of the paranormal the respect it deserves without the usual skeptical disclaimers.

America's Infatuation with Hollywood Stars

I am sure we all are infatuated with Hollywood stars. From the time of the birth of the Movie capital of the world, Hollywood, we cannot take our eyes off these charming people. They can even be called the Royal Family of America if this is not too insolent. Unfortunately, the infatuation with Hollywood Stars grows into an obsession for some fans. These fans transform their homes into shrines to their favorite celebrity. Their lives become centered on just one idea the Hollywood Stars.

Hollywood is not trying to prevent this ugly situation either. In fact, Hollywood does everything it can to promote this fascination with Hollywood stars. Both young and old actors are subjected to this. Even the dead Hollywood stars cannot rest in peace because they are constantly the subject of gossip.

I almost feel obliged to add that there are tourist agencies, which offer visits to graves of Hollywood stars. They give profound information how to find such notabilities as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Spencer Tracy or Gregory Peck.

If do not succeed to come across a real Hollywood star or you do not like the idea of visiting a grave, Hollywood offers wax museums for you. There next to each other are placed Clint Eastwood and Spider-Man!

Very attractive turn out to be the Hollywood stars of the 1940's, 50's and early 60's. This can be explained by the fact that these decades had been a more glamorized time and then the Ho llywood stars were compared with royalties.

Hollywood was a completely different world in the past, Hollywood stars either were different.
