Reality TV Shows Taking Over Television

Reality Television shows first burst onto the scene back in early 1990s when the Television show Real World first premiered. Even though that show started in the early 1990s, more Reality shows did not really pop up until the late 1990s. Once Survivor came out and was a huge ratings hit, everyone started to jump on the bandwagon and produce shows about anything and everything. Their have been shows such as The Bachelor and For Love or Money that are dating shows. Their have been shows such as Big Brother in which people live together and compete for prizes.

A lot of Reality shows have been broadcast but many of them bomb. By now this is a trend that most would think would have died down but it has only picked up lately with Skating with Celebrities and Dancing With the Stars being popular. With the way things are going there is only a certain amount of time for shows to broadcast and Reality show will not get dropped in favor of them even though many of them fail, so who will be the loser. If more and more Reality shows get picked up less sitcoms will get picked up. Dramas are just as popular as Reality shows right now so networks wont bet against them.

In sum, if you are not a big fan of Reality shows you can sell your Television because it looks like networks will keep coming up with anything and everything until they run out of ideas.

Long Live the King? Notes On Democracy Tolerance and The Christian Faith From "Larry King Live"

Now and again Larry King's tele-circus comes to town, showcasing a religious panel to tackle tough questions. And, of course, they never offer any serious logical analysis. But they do go on. Typically, Larry will choose one person on the panel who -- we are led to believe -- each represents one of the major (or occasionally minor) religious viewpoints. The underlying assumption here -- assumed, but never stated -- is that, somehow, all religions are of the same value, and that each deserves a say-so no more (or less) than any other.

To be sure, Larry King has the best of democratic intentions. He tries to show himself impartial to all sides, but seems completely unaware that, in doing so, he has put his foot down, taking a specific position on the issue himself. He has opted for agnosticism, the view that no one can really know for sure what the ultimate answers are. In some of his rare moments, I have witnessed Larry saying as much. He does not merely consider it t hat he himself doesn't know the ultimate answers; he thinks no one else really knows them either. This stands behind his pluralism: for if no one knows such answers for sure, then it follows that we ought to give a hearing to each set of answers. For we do not have, on this view, the answer sheet by which to check the work of Larry's experts.

But this presents Larry and company with some extraordinary logical problems. First, Larry seems quite confident (at times) about his own views. He may say that no one knows, but note this: the agnostic pretends to KNOW FOR SURE that no one knows for sure. This is the inescapable contradiction of agnosticism. This position short-circuits, for it would eliminate itself as a candidate for (knowable) ultimate truth along with all others. In other words, something must be true, and we know it isn't agnosticism. This means Larry won't be inviting me on his show anytime soon. Guests who refute the host do not stay long.

Second, La rry's pluralism assumes what most of his guests would deny. Each guest holds that his (or her) advocated religion names the true one, and that (they do not say this part, but only imply it, for the sake of PR) the religions the other guests advocate represent false ideas at best. They do not believe, as Larry does, that each of their views remains just as good as the other guy's. Just think about it. How could they? How could the Truth ever be just as good as some made-up, phoney religion?

By promoting pluralism, pluralists like Larry imply polytheism. But I am sure from listening to them that they do not realize this at all. If every religion is only as good or bad as the next, then no one god could be considered the One True God (and the others phonies). This shows that Pluralism logically shuns Monotheism -- and vice-versa. So religious pluralism really amounts to POLYtheism - the equality of gods, a kind of democratic theism where each god gets only one vote, and n ot merely the equality of my views and your views. This also shows that agnosticism and polytheism find each other a logical match, while standing over against Monotheism. In other words, democracy applied to religion implies the denial of the Christian faith. Fortunately, pagans aren't all that consistent, so the two can coexist alongside each other for quite some time.

Pluralists tout the tolerance line, but they in fact require much more than religious tolerance. They require monotheists to talk like polytheists. They demand the equality of gods. This is why polytheists never tolerate monotheists, unless the monotheists talk like polytheists, using the language of tolerance. You see, religious pluralism depends on the notion that ideas (religions are at least that) do not have consequences. For if bad ideas have harmful consequences, then the bad religions should be outlawed, and for the same reason we outlaw the act of screaming Fire! in a crowded Movie theater (bad consequences).

Finally, Larry's pluralism overlooks the simple fact that Islam, Christianity and Judaism each logically excludes the others. If they are each equal -- which his view demands and each of these three religions denies -- then they would have to be equally false. Now, any atheist who is even remotely self-conscious about his views, would agree with this assessment. But Larry's agnosticism now crumbles. For if his pluralism is correct, then WE KNOW in fact that some of the views out there -- namely monotheisms -- promote falsehood. But again, Larry does not seem to realize these implications of his own views. But I do.

So here we have, by logical necessity -- the Atheist, Agnostic and Polytheist -- landing on the same side of the fence over against any form of monotheism. That is, lik e it or not, how the current political landscape has taken shape in the cultural and political history of the U.S. too. But that story remains the topic for a different day.

For now, it suffices to note that pluralism -- the operating political philosophy of agnostics, polytheists and Atheists -- has many built-in contradictions. Chief among these, Christians will be quick to notice, is that in claiming to include everyone, it excludes those who do not believe that everyone should be included. Think on THAT over a beer. In other words, pluralism only works when everyone in that society is a pluralist. Hence the demand for total conformity (tolerance speak) by pluralists - even if they invite you on their shows. Larry's show is no exception.

Sick Twisted and Perverse: The Mystique of Midnight Movies

When you buy a Movie ticket for a much-reviewed, two thumbs up major studio release starring A-list actors, you pretty much know what to expect. When you load up on caffeine and sugar to attend a Midnight Movie, however, you never know what might appear on the screen. In fact, the allure of Midnight Movies isnt the time the Film is scheduled, but the risk involved with watching something designed to push your buttons.

While youre physically safe and comfortably snuggled inside the theater, you can be exposed to shocking, crude, or frightening images that are intended to make viewers uncomfortable -- physically, emotionally, and intellectually. They may be Horror Films, Concert footage, over-the-top Animation, or off-color comedy, but Midnight Movies have one thing in common: You certainly wont be bored.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has long been a popular Midnight feature because of its bizarre interactive blend of comedy, violence, and sexuality. The Blair Witch Project, which premiered as a Midnight Movie at the Sundance Film Festival in 1999, is another late-night favorite because of its guerilla-style camera techniques coupled with its pseudo-documentary presentation and growing sense of fear and doom.

Art houses and second-run theaters may feature Midnight Movies regularly or on special occasions, such as Halloween, but you can usually find the best selection of outrageous Midnight feature Films and shorts programs by attending a Film Festival.

The Midnight Movies program for the 2006 Florida Film Festival, for instance, includes Ben Meades American Stag, which explores the origin of dirty Movies, Brett Leonards Feed, which examines a fetish subculture devoted to large women, and Joshua and Jeffrey Crooks Salvage, a thriller about a w omans gruesome nightmares. Titles from the Midnight shorts program include Phone Sex Grandma and The Tozer Show: The Urine Bomber.

Matthew Curtis, programming director for the Florida Film Festival and Enzian Theater, says many factors determine which Movies make it to the Midnight slot. Usually we like Midnight Movies to be edgy, off-the-wall, very funny, sexual, perverse, visionary, extreme, cutting edge, violent -- something that people can't see anywhere else, he says.

Likewise, Thomas Ethan Harris, former programming director for the Los Angeles Film Festival, says when he schedules Midnight Movies he seeks obsessed, twisted, satirical work that re-envisions a genre.

The first thing to look for in a Midnight Movie is creative obscurity, Harris says. It doesn't have to be a weird cult Film or a Horror classic, but it must be inspired by a far-reaching inspiration that has a style or look that is more challenging than traditional coverage of the subj ect.

Harris observes that although Midnight programs have changed recently to include all genres rather than just Horror Films, the type of people who attend remains the same. Midnight audiences are a really intelligent group of people. They have to know Film history in order to understand new satire.

Midnight Horror Films usually attract young male audiences and Midnight musicals attract older mixed audiences -- two of many examples that each Film must find its niche.

Midnight audiences tend to be a little more open-minded and forgiving, Curtis says. Although the majority of Midnight audiences are college-aged males, we see lots of mixed crowds because women can enjoy a sick joke as much as the next guy.

So if youre looking for a sick joke, new satire, far-reaching inspiration, creative obscurity, or just something different from your normal routine, skip the afternoon matinee and head for a Midnight Movie.

Ravenous Hungry for a Scary Movie?

Tagline: You are who you eat.

Ive always been a sucker for Movies that are a bit outside the norm. Hell, who am I kidding? I love Movies that are way outside the norm. Sure, most of them may be doomed to box office failure and critical ridicule, but theyre a nice change of pace from the mindless drivel Hollywood routinely churns out. Now, dont get me wrong--I actually like some of the aforementioned mindless drivel, but variety, as they say, is the spice of life. Its just like pop music. Theres nothing wrong with liking Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake, but, if you dont occasionally broaden your horizons, youll end up with the intelligence of a stump (which might explain some of the people I see in my local Wal-Mart). And, as we all know, nothing will broaden your horizons like a cannibal Film set in the 1800s and featuring liberal amounts of black humor, gore, and David Arquette.

Did that last sentence get your attention? Good. Lets proceed.

After receiving a promotion for bravery during the Mexican-American War, Captain John Boyd (Guy Pearce) is transferred to an isolated fort in California when his commanding officer realizes hes not as brave as initially thought. Once there, Boyd meets the inhabitants of the sleepy outpost: Colonel Hart (Jeffrey Jones), the bookish commanding officer, Major Knox (Stephen Spinella), the alcoholic second-in-command, Private Reich (Neil McDonough), a tough-as-nails soldier, Private Toffler (Jeremy Davies), the nervous chaplain, Private Cleaves (David Arquette), the soldier who likes certain herbs a little too much, and an Indian brother and sister named George and Martha (Joseph Runningfox and Sheila Tousey). As Boyd settles in, the fort receives a late-night visitor in the form of one F.W. Colqhoun (Robert Carlyle), the near-death survivor of a doomed wagon train. As the terrified man tells his story, the residents of the fort are unwittingly drawn into a ghastly web of murd er, deceit, and cannibalism.

Two quotes open the Film. Both are fairly well-known, and each gives the audience a clue as to what kind of Movie theyre about to see. The first is from Nietzche. He that fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. The second quote is attributed to an anonymous source. Eat me. A simple but effective way to establish the Darkly humorous tone which is to follow.

But make no mistake about it-Ravenous, for all its moments of twisted mirth, still has more than enough frights and gore to please the Horror crowd. After all, this is a Movie about cannibalism. Based on the myth of the Wendigo, the basic premise is that a person may steal anothers strength by consuming his/her flesh. And, trust me, thats a theme we see explored over and over throughout the story.

Director Antonia Bird (who replaced the original director two weeks into production) and Editor Neil Farrell demonstrate an excelle nt understanding of pace and shot selection, allowing the Movie to roll briskly along while creating scenes of remarkable tension. Take, for example, the scene in which Colqhoun tells his horrible tale to the residents of Fort Spencer, or the one where Boyd flashes back to being trapped under a mountain of his dead comrades- their blood and guts flowing into his eyes and mouth. These are scenes dripping with suspense and ones which would have been far less effective in the hands of someone else. They also serve to once again remind us just how important editing and scoring are to the finished version of a Film.

Speaking of scoring, Id be remiss if I didnt mention the excellent soundtrack. The rustic, backwoods music drives the picture relentlessly and further enhances the feeling of inevitable doom. If Deliverance had been set in the 1800s, this would have been the soundtrack.

A solid cast of actors were put together for the Film, and this becomes obvious in the more over-the-top moments. Less experienced thespians might have really camped it up and ruined the overall tone of the Film, but these fellows downplayed even the most gruesome moments, and, despite the outlandish subject matter, the restrained performances gave the picture a greater sense of realism and Horror.

Jeffrey Jones is excellent as always, and the character of Colonel Hart allows him some room to stretch his acting muscles (something Jones, a veteran of comedic Films, doesnt always get a chance to do). Even when Hart begins to develop less-than-socially-acceptable-behavior, Jones convinces us that we should still like and care about the character. Guy Pearce is also solid, although he doesnt really have a particularly strong role to work with. Captain John Boyd is an introspective sort of fellow who doesnt utter a full sentence until about 25 minutes into the Film. While he gets more dialogue as things get rolling, I couldnt Help but think that Pearces talents werent fully utilized by the Ted Griffin script. And lets not forget about Robert Carlyle. I first saw his talents on display in the otherwise horrible Trainspotting, and Ive been a fan ever since. His performance as Colqhoun is another fine moment in whats becoming a very impressive career. From pitiful to sadistic, Carlyle gets a demonstrate a wide range of emotions as we peel away the various layers of his character.

On the flipside, I didnt really care for Jeremy Davies as Pvt. Toffler. I dont know if Ive ever seen such a nervous and irritating character (well, there was John Leguizamo in The Pest). Having also seen Davies in Saving Private Ryan and Secretary, I suppose its just his style. But that doesnt mean that I always have to like it. Viewing Davies is often like watching an addict trying to kick the habit--lots of mumbling, sweating, and twitching. Still, at least hes original, and thats more than can be said of many of todays actors.

And, in a way, that might best sum up Ravenous- At least its original. Sure, the Film loses momentum around the halfway mark and becomes a bit generic. Sure, David Arquette plays another goofy jackass. And, sure, the final showdown is a disappointment. But you wont find many Films out there which are able to blend themes of cannibalism with wry, Dark humor and actually pull it off. Its got bite (insert cornball joke here), and thats more than can be said of most Films these days.

BBC Tasks

The BBC was formed in nineteen twenty six as a public company. It was recognized by an act of legislative body, Royal Charter, and a declaration about what the administration is and what the main purposes of it are. BBC has numerous objectives which it has to fulfil. Over the years he BBC has in addition become more commercialized as they are attempting to get a superior split of audience.

They have come under great external scrutiny as well as increasing commercial competitive pressures, and they know a modern business has to understand the drivers of its performance in order to prepare itself for this very tough competitive environment.

BBC has also reviewed its strategy and has made this into a system which supported their strategic business.

The BBC is a corporate body, governed by a Board of Governors, as provided for in the Charter. The independence of the BBC is noted in the preamble to the Charter and explicitly guaranteed in Clause 2.1 of the Agreement in the following terms:

The Corporation shall be independent in all matters concerning the content of its programmes and the times at which they are broadcast or transmitted and in the management of its affairs. The governing structure, both internal and regulatory, is not conducive to ensuring respect for independence in practice, notwithstanding the formal guarantee. Too much power is concentrated in the hands of the government, both directly and indirectly through its powers of appointment of the Governors. Crude interference in the running of the BBC is rare, though not unknown, but more subtle pressure undoubtedly exists and has been the subject of some debate. Despite this, it would appear that there was little support during the White Paper process in 1994 for reducing government control by establishing an independent broadcasting council to take over functions currently exercised by or by making the BBC subject to the jurisdiction of the existing ind ependent broadcasting regulators.

Their functions which include: approving clear objectives and monitoring compliance with those objectives; ensuring that the Corporation meets the highest standards of probity, propriety and value for money; and setting the overall strategy for the various services (Home, World and Commercial). For the Home Services, this strategy should ensure that the Corporations services, programmes and other activities reflect the needs and interests of the public. The Governors are also responsible for ensuring appropriate consultation with the various Councils and due regard for the views of listeners; monitoring fulfillment of legal and contractual obligations; and appointing a Director General and other senior members of management. Neither the Charter nor the Agreement sets out the appropriate relationship between the Governors and BBC officers and staff, although their respective roles have become clearer in recent years. Although it is cle ar that Governors have a legal right to assume control over programme matters, in practice they do so only in exceptional circumstances.

Another regulatory board which shapes up BBC objectives is OFCOM. OFCOM, as the independent regulator with responsibility for the UK broadcasting sector, should ensure that all public service broadcasters are effectively and transparently regulated with clearly defined public service remits. Regulation of the BBC - including the approval of new services, enforcement of the fair trading guidelines and determining whether it is achieving its public service objectives - should fall within the remit of OFCOM. It is anomalous, particularly in matters relating to competition, product placement, and undue prominence and programme standards that the BBC should fall outside the remit of OFCOM.

OFCOM should have the ability to monitor on an annual basis the commercial and market impact of the BBC's activities to ensure that excessive ma rket distortion does not occur. Furthermore the role of the Governors of the BBC should be refocused to deal with internal management and value for money rather than on regulatory functions.

Prettiest Woman in Turkish Showbiz Stumbles Will She Fall?

Why Super-Star Hlya Avsar has (skinny) dipped in the Turkish popularity polls lately...

Our mama always told us that 'familiarity breeds contempt'... And it's exactly that truism that has drawn Hlya Avsar, over the past several months, into a blossoming controversy -- for which she is largely to blame.

It actually started understandably enough... when Hlya was recovering from unhappiness... around the time she finally got the courage to divorce her philandering high-society-bum-of-a-husband, Kaya ilingiroglu, late last year -- after Kaya admitted to national news services that he'd impregnated previously little-known socialite Feraye Tanyola, his latest mistress...

But having done one good thing, Hlya thought it gave her special license -- and she began to speak out on too many unrelated subjects, as if she had the answers to life's hard questions... as if everyone was interested in what she had to say.

And in the process, she exposed media watchers to much more than they ever needed to know -- including the sordid details of past love affairs (e.g. rehashed stories about the steamy affair she had as a budding starlet with notorious womanizer, [singer/actor Ibo Tatlises, made headlines for weeks)...Then, she really turned heads as she began to spout off about weighty political issues (e.g. The 'Kurdish Question') -- causing consternation among peers, regular citizens, the media, and political leaders alike. But she just blustered on, confident in her righteousness.

The controversy picked up speed recently when she got publicly entangled in an embarrassing relationship with a wealthy Turkish-Italian businessman who exchanged headline insults with Ibo Tatlıses (as Hlya watched on -- half in exasperation, half in shame). Shortly thereafter she made more headlines when the paparazzi caught her skinny dipping in her summer-house swimming-pool (see newsphoto at our website link below). And then yesterday, for some unknown reason, she decided to publicly revisit the details of a 20-year-old affair she had with ex-footballer Tanju olak, a married man with young children at the time. Here's the quote she gave to Hrriyet Gazetesi.

'My love for Tanju olak was a mistake of youth. We had an affair 20 years ago -- and I've always felt regret about it. After the affair was over, I sought out Aysu Hanim (Tanju Bey's wife) and said, I acted like an animal, and I'm filled with regret. I made a mistake, I fell in love. I'm sorry. Aysu Hanim accepted my apology and their marriage has survived. They have two grown children now, but the family still feels discomfort from hearing this kind of news.' Ed. Well, duh Hlya...So why reopen the wound now?

This unraveling of the once unassailable 'Avsar Girl' (as she's known to her fans) has been closely watched by peers and certain influential news columnists -- and many of them (who have seen and heard enough) are coming out of the woodwork, g uns a'blazing -- criticizing Hlya contemptuously in ways we never dreamed we'd hear...

Coming Next Year High Definition Movies on DVD!

While HD Radio is the hottest technology today, HD DVDs are another new technology that will soon allow you to view high definition movies on DVD right in your living room.

What are HD DVDs? It depends on whom you ask, as there are currently two competing HD DVD formats under development. Both support high def films but one goes by the easy to remember name, HD DVD. The other is called Blu-ray.

An HD DVD disk has a single layer capacity of 15GB and a dual-layer capacity of 30 GB. And Toshiba is developing a triple layer disk that will have a capacity of 45GB. However, this is still smaller than Blu-ray disks, which support 25GB for one layer, 50GB for two layers and 100GB for four layers.

This means that both formats will be able to play movies and programs recorded in high definition but, as you would imagine, the larger capacity disks will be able to support more additional information such as out-takes, directors comments, interactive features, and eve n alternate high def versions of the same film.

In November of 2004, the DVD Forum decided that HD DVD would be the HD DVD successor to the DVD. On the other hand, the Blu-ray disk was developed outside of the DVD Forum, and was never submitted for consideration.

Why you should care

At this time, each of these formats requires a different HD DVD player meaning that you will be able to play high definition movies recorded in HD DVD only in an HD DVD player and Blu-ray movies in only a Blu-ray player.

Both HD DVD and Blu-ray provide enough space to store crystal-clear, high-definition movies and both are expected to launch early next year.

Family Guy Cartoon Best of Breed

Of all the cartoon sitcom of the genre Family Guy is indeed the best of breed. If you will remember its predecessors such as; Wait Until Your Father Gets Home and The Simpsons it is obvious that Family Guy is a cut above. Of course when you rock the boat as much as they do, it is hard to find a home network, as sometimes it offends folks. But with the huge following the cartoon is more than in demand.

Indeed fellow cartoon viewer, I love that Family Guy cartoon show, great stuff, heck they slam everybody and you know it is good too, because people are WAY too uptight these days! Currently I see the need to laugh at our selves a little and dump some of the political correctness for a stereotype reality check. Why? Well because most stereotypes are bathed in at least some truth otherwise they would not be stereotypes at all.

Currently I am running a think tank and I find the Family Guy as a good warm up to dump the political correctness in order allow fluidity o f thought. You see, well, you know if you structure a think tank too stuffy like, then you control thought rather than allow proper anything goes flows of thought and therefore you ruin the whole essence of what a Think Tank really is.

Because controlled thought well, one could hardly say that is thinking? Flowing thought and focused thought is far better similar to fluidity of motion wins the battle and eventually the war. You cannot address real issues if you hide the political correctness and sweep reality under the carpet. Consider all this in 2006.

ABC Tells Former President Bill Clinton to Stick It

The Movie Path to 9-11 has been condemned by Bill Clintons Administration; including Madam Albright and Bill Clinton himself because they claim it falsely accuses the Clinton Administration or portrays them as being very weak on International Terrorism. ABC said that the final cut was not yet completed and therefore there is no way that Bill Clinton and his former staff have anyway of knowing how it portrays anyone.

The Movie; Path to 9-11 is a documentary by Jim Benson and John Eggerton. ABC says it will make minor; Cosmetic Changes only to the five our mini-series. Bill Clinton wrote a letter to Disney President Bob Iger and said unl ess it corrected; Various Alleged Inaccuracies, that the series should be pulled. Inferring that litigation was on perhaps possible.

The question is now was the Clinton Administration weak on International Terrorism and if so will Hilary Clinton follow the same tact if she rises to power in the future? Of course conservatives wish us to believe this and liberals are worried about the repercussions of the Movie so close to mid-term elections.

Did ABC really politely just tell the Former President Bill Clinton to Stick It in a nice but subtle way? Are they really going to air the series with minor modifications or is it going to be left as is because their counsel tells them that there is no much Bill Clinton or anyone can do about it anyway? Consider all this in 2006.

3 Movie Reviews Blues Brothers (1980) Man of The Year (2003) The Butterfly Effect (2004)

THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980) 25th Anniversary Edition reminds one how quickly time passes.

This improbable musical of a movie still sucks for plot and character but shines on music, and especially the set-pieces at the baptist church (James Brown), diner (Aretha Franklin) and Ray's Music Store (Ray Charles).

I don't believe Aretha Franklin was ever that majestic as when she is hollering Freeedom! while swinging her hips and absolutely dominating the screen God bless.

The dances are as fantastic as the plot is contrived and cheap.

However, this is also the movie to see if you enjoy the Mother of All Car Crashes. How did they manage to have those dozens of police cars pile up on top of each other while flying at neck break speed (100 miles per hour as John Landis informs during the director's commentary) and how they did not have anyone killed after those two crash scenes, is beyond me.

Must see for all lovers of non-Delta Northern-white-bread R&B lovers.

MAN OF THE YEAR (Homem Do Ano, 2003) is a funky Brazilian movie that watches almost like a Tarantino flick, with most of the bloodshed but none of the humor. A man becomes a killer for hire almost by dumb luck and he can't get out of the vicious cycle.

The plot is cool but we have no idea who this character is. We never know where he is coming from. We never understand why he is doing what he is doing except for a slight dip into homophobia. The scene where he, a bloody killer, mourns his roasted pig is just too obvious and symbolically lame. What's really scary is to think that some of this stuff actually does happen in today's (or did happen in yesterday's) Brazil.

Good Entertainment but only a 7 on Tarantino scale.

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT (2004), really interesting is all I can say. But as a cinematic experience it sucks. It for example nowhere has the sophistication of Donnie Darko. This Alternative Universes plot goes back and forth in time with too many flashbacks to count, pulling us through the harrowing consequences of our actions.

Logically the whole premise is flawed because it assumes that the consequences of our actions changes only us but neither the other people around us nor our surroundings. That's why when the lead guy (Ashton Kutcher) returns to his childhood over and over he finds all the conditions exactly the same.

The only thing to change is his response to the tragic situation. But the mini-episodes where he ends up in jail and loses his arms are testimony to the Writer's creativity.

A convoluted movie bungled up with endless flashbacks and contrived mechanisms (reading his diary hurls the hero back in time). Take two aspirins after watching.

Just Friends (DVD) Review

A somewhat hilarious and charming romantic comedy, Just Friends explores the innermost depths of the infamous friend zone of male/female relationships. Directed by Roger Kumble, the brains behind the widely lauded film Cruel Intentions (1999), the film has a novel premise, and although not the funniest comedy to hit the big screen in the past few years, it does have some really funny moments. Adam Tex Davis makes his debut as a screenwriter after extensive work in cinematography and TV writing, and his efforts are above average, but Just Friends is not in the same league as similar themed contemporaries such as Theres Something About Mary (1998) and Meet The Parents (2000). Nevertheless, its a film well worth seeing

Just Friends follows the life of Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds), a formerly obese New Jersey high school student in love with classmate Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart). However, Chris long ago fell into the friend zone, and although, he spent much of his adoles cence bonding and building memories with Jamie, she never saw him as anything more than a friend. At their 1995 graduation party, Chris vows to reveal his true feelings, but his well-intentioned attempt blows up in his face when a jerk classmate humiliates him in front of his peers. Enraged, Chris vows to leave town and become somebody.

Fast forward ten years to 2005, where Chris is a thin, romantically smooth and wealthy record executive living in Los Angeles. He lives in a multi-million dollar house, drives a flashy sports car, and dates a string of beautiful models. Against his wishes, Chris is forced to watch over one of the companys hottest pop artists, the ditsy and annoying Samantha James (Anna Faris). En route to Paris, their jet becomes grounded in New Jersey, and Chris is left with no alternative but to return home. While there, hes reminded of his lifelong crush on Jamie. With newfound confidence, Chris sets out to win over Jamie, but in so doing, he doesnt act like the real Chris, and his actions have the opposite effect. Meanwhile, a rival suitor from high school, a guitar-playing nice guy named Dusty (Chris Klein), enters the picture. His courtship threatens to ruin Chriss latest pursuit of Jamie, but in the end, the only impediment to Chriss lifelong dream is himself

Cut from a formulaic genre, the resolution of Just Friends is rather predictable. But Moviegoers dont watch these types of films for suspense; they only want to laugh. And anyone who enjoyed Ryan Reynolds in National Lampoons Van Wilder is going to enjoy his performance in this film as well. Although not as well-written as the aforementioned film, Reynolds helps prop up the script with a well-cast comic persona akin to Owen Wilson and a straight-face delivery that would make Leslie Nielsen jealous. In fact, Just Friends is a good pick for those hoping to just laugh out loud. Two particularly hilarious scenes come to mind, one in which Chris makes an unexpected return to the ice rink after busting his lip, and one in which he receives an unexpected hand-hold while watching The Notebook. The latter is especially hilarious, and Adam Davis deserves extra credit for creating this classic and original scene. In the end, Just Friends will never garner the status of all-time comedy cult classic, but for the present day, it more than fulfills its promise to create laughter

By the way, my guess is, in reference to the Brad and Angelina story, that Angelina was making a fancy pasta dish for dinner, ran out of fresh tomato and needed to run to the store really quick. It appeared that she stormed out of the house because both kids begged to go with her so they could buy a candy bar. They were both wining and had been fighting with each other all day long. Angelina was fed up with their behavior and that accounts for the storming out of the house with both kids.

Life Lessons Learned While Watching M*A*S*H

M*A*S*H is one of my all time favorite TV shows. In fact, an old repeat is on while I write these words.

I've had the good fortune over the years to meet both Alan Alda who played Hawkeye Pierce and Wayne Rogers who played Trapper John.

Life lessons from M*A*S*H

1. Humor heals

Can you think of a more stressful and debilitating situation? Thousands of miles from home, in a war zone, putting wounded bodies back together again.

One of the main coping techniques as laughter. Wise cracks, practical jokes, and more kept them going. Humor is a fantastic source of stress relief.

2. An off the rack world

There is a scene in which Hawkeye and Margaret are talking about their struggles with relationships. From this conversation came a great line - You know what your problem is? You keep looking for a tailor made fit in an off the rack world.

3. The joy of being really good at something you love

The happiest people I know are the o nes that get to do something they love for a living each day.

Even though they were in horrible conditions, you could tell that the surgeons enjoyed what they did and were committed to be the best they could be, no matter what.

Review of Must Have Dogs

Plot: A forty-something preschool teacher looks to the personals for a change of pace and a relationship, with hilarious results.

Cast: Diane Lane, John Cusack, Elizabeth Perkins, Christopher Plummer, Dermot Mulroney, Stockard Channing, and more.

Rating: Rated PG-13 for sexual content.

My Thoughts: The Movie was a very different type of love story. It was definitely entertaining, but there were times when I thought it was predictable. However, if you are looking for a Movie that doesn't require too much thought to enjoy, this is a good Movie to see. It is a comedy so the Movie often makes fun of situations that you or someone you know could be facing. However, sometimes this is exactly what is needed to get someone out of their slump and moving forward.

Parts parents might want to know about:

1. The search for a condom: Safe sex vs. casual sex

2. Multiple partners: The father in this Movie has several at the same time

3. Online dating sites: Are they safe? Who might you meet on these sites? How truthful are the profiles found there?

4. Divorce can be painful, even wh en no children are involved.

5. The entire Movie focuses on dating. Sex is talked about frequently and there are a couple sexual scenes.

What stood out to me: The Movie shows the world of online dating. Meeting someone online can be dangerous at times and parents may want to watch this Movie with their children to help them understand that online dating doesn't always turn out with the perfect partner. It also shows how difficult it can be to move on after a divorce and how one's family needs to be supportive of the individual.

The above review is meant only as a guide. It shows my observations of the Movie. The review comes with no warranty whatever.

Im in love with an ape. A twenty-five foot ape to be exact. Peter Jackson did the impossible: he managed to make a re-make of King Kong that didnt suck and not only did it not suck it is arguably the best King Kong re-make ever and can rival the original as the best King Kong Movie ever. This is more Kong then you ever thought youd need but in the end Jackson keeps you wanting more.

King Kong takes place in depression era New York, were given a glimpse of slums that resemble refugee camps, forced evictions and protestors that are marching against the deplorable living conditions. . A young actress Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) is employed, if you call performing in a low budget vaudeville show, in a theatre where the rent is due, where she hasnt been paid in two weeks. Eventually the bottom falls out a nd Darrow is as unemployed as the rest of the populace.

As Ms. Darrow tries to figure out what shes going to do about food Carl Denham (Jack Black) is underwhelming his producers with the footage of his latest film. Just as they let him no how they are not pleased, Denham informs them that not only is he in need of a ship to continuing filming but the ship will be taking the cast and crew to Singapore. The producers eighty-six the idea yet Denham hijacks the film, commandeers a ship only to find out his leading lady has pulled out of the project. Now he needs an actress who can wear a size four. You see where this is going.

Add to the cast a kidnapped writer (Adrien Brody), an egotistical actor (Kyle Chandler) and a skeptical, secretive crew and the stage is set for a lot of action and confrontation. While heavy on the exposition for the first hour King Kong turns into a wild rollercoaster ride of action and emotion and makes you feel like youre a kid again , watching whatever cartoon or Movie that made you lose all track of time and completely engulf you in whatever story was being told.

Some might argue that its all too much. As soon as you get over one heart stopping ride, Jackson cranks it all up again as the cast of characters finds themselves in yet another life threatening situation. Yes, its a bit over the top, but so is the idea of a twenty-five foot monkey falling in love with a blonde, blue eyed, willowy woman. Since the premise of the story is so over the top then the resulting film should be too and Jackson doesnt disappoint. You get what you pay for and more. Yes its three hours long but I promise you theres no better way to spend three hours.

The West Wing (DVD) Review

Premiering in September 1999, the original NBC series The West Wing built an instant cult following with its seemingly realistic weekly excursions into the inner sanctums of the White House. The series became such a hit that some pollsters claimed that certain people actually believed Jed Bartlet was the real president (although, if true, this is more of a negative reflection on the intelligence of the electorate, and not necessarily an indication of West Wing's realism). But regardless, the truth of the matter is that West Wing definitely strikes a chord with certain audiences, providing entertaining brew of action, suspense, and drama on a weekly basis

Seasoned Hollywood actor Martin Sheen plays the lead role of President Jed Bartlet. The day-to-day affairs of Bartlet's administration are run by a number of individuals who surround him, among them are: Claudia C.J. New Scary Movie 4 Pics

Below courtesy of WeinsteinCo. are a batch of new images from Scary Movie 4, which stars Anna Faris, Shaun Landers, Shaquille O'Neal, Regina Hall, Phil Mcgraw, Leslie Nielsen, Carmen Electra, Simon Rex, Michael Madsen, and Craig Bierko. In this fourth installment of the popular Scary Movie series, recent horror and sci-fi movies such as Saw 2, The Grudge, War of the Worlds, and The Village will be spoofed. Scary Movie 4 arrives in theaters on April 14th.

Madsen was recently added to the cast and told Latino Review that he's not at liberty to discuss what character he will be playing due to him signing a hush hush confidentiality clause.

To say that Scary Movie 3 was a success would be an understatement. The film made on a budget of 45 million dollars raked in 48 million in it's opening weekend. By the time it had left theaters, it had taken in 110 million plus. That's not counting what it did in dvd sales and rentals. A special edition dvd entitled Scary Movie 3.5 was recently released and that made a pretty chunk of change itself. The Weinstein's are hoping Scary Movie 4 will be as huge of a hit when it hits theaters this spring.

Pete is a budding rock n roll singer and cartoonist now living in Brighton. He was diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome at the age of 14, started wearing womens clothes aged 16 and impersonated Freddie Mercury at his mothers wedding. When asked why he wanted to participate on Big Brother he replied: to reach the top of my spiral to heaven and shine again. Also, if I was to win the money I would like to pay off my mums mortgage so she can finally live her life because she looked after me for so long. And I crave fame and would like to be a famous Touretter. Pete lives alone except for a pet hamster called Magic, who roams freely around his house and lives in the wall.

Shabaz CHAUDRY
Age: 37. From: Glasgow. Occupation: Unemployed.
Shabaz is single and has been unemployable for the last 21 years, although has done a lot of voluntary care work since he was 16, helping the disabled and people with special needs in his local community. He admits that he has never been in love and has never had a boyfriend as he thinks men are afraid of his flamboyant personality. When asked why he wanted to be on Big Brother he replied: because Ive never had the flatmate or housemate experience as Ive lived by myself for nearly 21 years and I want to challenge myself. He claims he has a phobia of straight-acting homophobic homosexuals and would like to be reincarnated as a woman so that he can have children.

Richard NEWMAN
Age: 33. From: Canada. Occupation: Waiter.
Richard is single, lives in London and describes himself as a sexual, passionate and hostile man hunter. He loves going out all night in Soho and making conq uests, but equally enjoys dinner parties and the theatre. When asked why he wanted to go on Big Brother, he replied simply: just for the money. He says the person he would least like to find in the house is a woman who is eight months pregnant. He has a strong fear of them and even fears being interviewed by Davina McCall when he leaves the house. Sexism, racism and men who turn down his advances make him angry and if he could pass any law it would be that all straight men must have a homosexual encounter.

Glyn WISE
Age:18. From: Blaenau Ffestiniog. Occupation: Part-time lifeguard / Head boy in 6th Form.
Glyn is the youngest member of the Big Brother house and is looking forward to receiving nationwide attention and being able to show off his sexy body to millions.

He is fiercely proud of his Welsh heritage and feels that all Welsh people should speak the language. Glyn aspires to be the first male Page 3 model and is content with his life and body he wou ld like to be reincarnated as himself, declaring: I am the closest example to perfection. However, he doesn't get on well with members of the animal kingdom, claiming: I hate all animals and they hate me.

Movies Watch What You Want When You Want

Movies are a tremendous source of Entertainment for most people. The reason? Its probably because even people who have little in common can find a movie to enjoy together.

The moviemakers apparently understood the need to create films that appeal to a wide audience. Otherwise, the good guy wouldnt take time out in his pursuit of the bad guys to kiss the girl. The girl wouldnt get herself in a wreck that required a heroic rescue before she got her guy. And perhaps the most obvious example of all the cartoons wouldn't have such great humor that appeals to the adults almost as much as the children.

Technology has played an important role in broadening the appeal of most Movies to encompass a wider audience. Consider the Movies of a half-century ago. There were spacemen on Earth an d earthlings in space, but the scenes were usually very plain and the almost everything was left to the imagination of the view. Today, the vistas are bigger than life, futuristic scenes are more incredible than the average imagination could have conjured on its own and the stunts are unbelievable because they are humanly impossible.

But even when were watching a stunt that cant possibly have happened in real life, were awed and amazed and cant wait to see it again. And again. And thats the beauty of the movie experience today. Not only are there thousands upon thousands of Movies to watch, many are available to buy, rent or Download onto your PC. You can watch them as often as you want, shelve them for awhile and watch them again.

While technology is playing an important role in the movie-making process, its also important for movie watching. The fact that many Movies are now digital files on DVD allows moviemakers to apply a myriad of special features into the movie file itself. Surround sound is one of those special features and if you have a home theater set up with surround sound, youll be able to hear the special effects just like you do at a commercial theater. Ever wonder how it is that a door squeaks to your right, while a woman screams to your left? The answer is surround sound technology and a DVD has ample space to store those kinds of programming features.

You and your spouse will probably never agree on every single movie. But with the many movie titles available for you to rent or own either on DVD or to Download to your computer, its likely that youll find something that you both want to watch tonight. A woman finds a cell phone in a public bathroom. As she is messing around with out out of sheer boredom, she discovers that there are photos and a video clip recorded earlier by the phone, images of a gruesome murder taking place in the same bathroom... What happened to the victim?

The Shawshank Redemption a Stephen King Movie

The Shawshank Redemption is consistently voted as one of the best Movies of all time. Originally a story in a Stephen King book, the Different Seasons, known as Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, the story was adapted and the Movie created. The Movie was directed and the screenplay written by Frank Darabont. The Movie was his first major production. Interestingly Stephen King has written two stories about Prisons, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, which happen to be the first two Movies that Frank Darabont directed.

The story is a cruel one, in which Andy Dufresne, an educated and kind man is wrongly convicted of his wifes murder. During his time in Prison he befriends several people, who are criminals, whereas Andy is not. His life is changed forever, as he deals with the troubles of incarceration.

Stephen Kings excellent character portrayal is not limited to his horror stories, and the characters in this story are some of his best. One could even believe this was based on a true story, but it is not, King has confirmed. The story is upsetting, puzzling and warming, and the Movies popularity confirms people association with the story. I think it will always be a classic.

When released at the theatre The Shawshank Redemption did not achieve great success, despite the great buzz already generated by the Hollywood industry due to the great story. This was in part due to great competition at the time, and also the fact that the story is about a Prison, which put many Movie goers off. However, after the release to DVD the Shawshank Redemption sold in huge quantities maKing it a firm favorite.

Violence In Films And Television

Because of the inconclusive nature of Violence, a number of models have been developed to explain the relationships between the Media and its audience. A common model is the hyperdermic syringe model. According to this model, the Media had the power to change attitudes and behaviour for the pro-social as well as the anti-social influence. Empirical research has soon revealed the shortcomings of the hyperdermic syringe model and it was recognised that the effectiveness of the Media in getting its message across depended on the personal influence affecting the perceptions of audience members. An alternative of this was the development of the two-step flow which was produced by Katz and Lazarfelo. They believe the way the Media is interpreted by audiences is usually involved by a process of negotiation with other members of the audience. They believed instead of passively absorbing Media output, a discussion is held between family members, friends and even strangers about the programmes seen on T.V. In this model, opinion leaders emerge to help interpret the message we are being sent. They believed the stimulus relat ionship between Media and audiences was replaced by the complexity of human meaning and personal relationships. Finally the third alternative model, which rejected both the hyperdermic syringe model and the two-step, flow model, was the long-term effect model. This model suggests that Media may influence us in many ways that are hard to measure and have long term effects on our attitudes, creating new ideas or reinforcing our original ones rather than changing opinions we already have.

Cumberbatch carried out a study where he analysed all programmes broadcasted on all four channels, in four separate weeks between May and September 1986. The primary unit for counting was the violent act; he quoted a coherent uninterrupted sequence of actions involving the same agents in the same role. Cumberbatch found that 30% of programmes contained some Violence. The overall frequency was 1.14 violent acts per programme, 1.68 acts per hour, where each act lasted approximately 25 seconds and so therefore occupying just over 1% of T.V time. However he claimed that if boxing and wrestling were excluded, the average duration would be 13 seconds and if verbal threats were to be included than the average frequency would rise to 1.96 acts per hour. He found that most Violence was shown in spy, fantasy, war detective, crime and thriller programmes, and less Violence on quiz shows and chat shows plus non-contact sports. However he claimed that injuries from violent acts were rare. 26% of occasions, Violence resulted in death but 61% no injuries were shown as the victims simply showed pain or were shocked.

While about 75% of people believe that there is more Violence now on Television then there was about 10 years ago, Cumberbatch believes most people are mistaken. Violence and concerns about Violence have clearly increased in society in the last decade but have not been reflected by a proportional increase on Television. Much of the concern is focused upon children. Cumberbatch found that while Violence was more likely to be shown after 9pm, Violence in childrens T.V was rare, with the main exception being cartoon. However, until recently much of the public controversy over the harmful effects of T.V on children has focused on the popular cartoon such as Tom and Jerry. Realism is an important factor, which appears to be an important element in viewers perception of Violence. For example, real life incidents in news and documentaries are generally rated as more violent then Violence portrayed in fictional settings.

The recent studies have shown that when children were exposed to violent p rogrammes they showed violent behaviour. The childrens aggression in behaviour is learnt from the environment through reinforcement and the process of modelling. Modelling involves learning through the observation of other people, which may lead to imitation. Aggression may be learnt from models such as parents, peers or even Media characters through observation. For example, if a child sees the models of aggression being rewarded, this acts as indirect reinforcement for the child who will continue to imitate it. But if the child sees aggression in others who are punished, it is then less likely to be imitated.

Although over a thousand studies have been made, the link between Media Violence and violent behaviour has not yet been proven.
